Evolution Timelines

In 1993, a group of advocates in Canada launched the Pryyateli Ditey (Help Us Help The Children) Project as a project of the Children of Chernobyl Canadian Fund. The goal of the Project was to render support to orphans living at various institutions in Ukraine. Ruslana Wrzesnewskyj was the founder and the coordinator of the Project.

The Project’s activity started with delivery of humanitarian aid and relief aid.

Gradually, Pryyateli Ditey found supporters in Ukraine. In August, 1996, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine registered “Tovarystvo “Pryyateli Ditey” Charity Fund as a nation-wide charity organization. Maryna Krysa (Ms.) was elected the President of the Fund.

In 1997, the volunteers in the USA registered the Pryyateli Ditey, USA Charity Fund (Ukrainian Children’s Aid & Relief Effort., Inc), which was headed by Vera Petrusha.

Today, activity of the Tovarystvo Pryyateli Ditey Charity Fund is performed under the programs that cover various aspects of the orphans’ lives and are developed to help staff of the children’s institutions in their work. There are eight programs now:

  • Humanitarian Aid and Relief
  • Educational and Health-Improving Camps
  • Scholarship Educational Program
  • Assistance to Orphans with Physical Challenges
  • Anti-Trafficking Awareness among Orphans from Boarding Schools
  • National Association of Orphanage Directors and Staff Support
  • Happy Childhood - Happy Future (cultural and esthetical education)

Every Charity’s program is implemented through particular long-term as well as short-term projects.  Programs and projects might change their priority taking into account changes in the society and in needs of orphans and the children’s institutions. Based on our previous experience and considering the current situation in the country, the staff of the Fund and the volunteers are developing new projects to better meet today’s and tomorrow’s needs of the orphans.
