| May | The report of the trade representative of the USA on the list "Special 301" in the year 2008 is published. According to the “Special-301”, Ukraine is unfiled from the “Priority Watch List” and included to the “Watch List”. This is a new proof of the significant positive changes taking place in Ukraine both in the system of legislative support of the law regulation of intellectual property protection and in creating efficient mechanisms of realization of this legislation. |
| May | The Order of the State Department of Intellectual Property as of 13 May 2008 ¹72 approves the Elucidation on the implementation of the Order of fee payment for actions connected with intellectual property rights protection approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as of 23 December 2004 ¹1716. |

May | Ukraine becomes the WTO member. In this connection, the Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ¹1716 “On approving the Order of fee payment for actions connected with intellectual property rights protection” comes into force with amendments and additions introduced by the Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers ¹ 1148 as of 19 September 2007. |
| May | For the first time, Ukraine takes part in the 11th Moscow International Industrial Property Show “Archimedes”. The development of Mukacheve Technological Institute “Optical gas sensor with semiconductor selective source of radiation”, presented by the State Department of Intellectual Property, is awarded with the silver medal (ññûëêà!). |
| July | With the aim to improve the quality of the process of examination of marks for goods and services and enhance applicants’ rights protection, the State Department by its Order approves the text of the 2nd, amended, Ukrainian-language ninth edition of International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification). Its publication appears as an annex to the Official Bulletin “Promyslova Vlasnist” (“Industrial Property”) ¹ 14/2008. |

October | A meeting between Mr Mykola Paladiy, Head of the State Department, with Mr Gerard Giroud, Principal Director of European and International Affairs at the European Patent Office (EPO), takes place. During the meeting the Cooperation Programme between the State Department and the EPO for 2008-2010 is signed. |
