Ukraine History

Happy 20th Ukraine!
It may have a very long and interesting history, but ironically, this great country we live in is one of the youngest in the world. As part of this issue dedicated to this great celebration, we’re taking a look back at the last 20 years, noting the most important events in the country’s young life as it comes of age.

Ukraine Today

A Different Perspective
Depending on your perspective, twenty years may seem like a lot or a little amount of time. Trees grow to be thousands of years old, and so twenty years to a oak is nothing! On the other hand, a twenty-year old car is considered something of a relic. But what does twenty years mean in terms of a country? And depending on whether you were born here or arrived at the turn of independence, does your perspective change?

Take Me Out!
Stuck In The City?
August – the last month of summer and probably the hottest and most depressing for those stuck in the concrete jungle – does not have to be a horrible 31 day countdown. This is Kyiv after all, and there is always something to do!

What’s On: Read All Over the World (#29)
We're sticking with Europe this week, and another visit to the amazing Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, northern Spain. Hailed as a signal moment in architecture, the design of the building is just as interesting as the contemporary art it contains. Yana Sokolovska snapped this shot, and the museum's curator got very interested in our mag! Below we're back in the city of love, Paris. Olga Yermak sent us an excellent series of photos from this beautiful city, and we've selected the Arc de Triomphe as the best shot for its quirky and bold insertion of What's On.
Every month we will be giving away a pair of tickets to any scheduled Ukraine International Airlines destination absolutely free!

A Man of Many Words
Young, good-looking and successful. But enough about me – let’s talk about Andriy Danilevych. At the tender age of 30, this baby-faced assassin is an editor at TRK Ukraina. He hosts political debates and interviews VIPs, up to and including presidents. He’s just finished for the summer, and What’s On caught up with him before he jetted off to New York.
