The UN Food and Agriculture Organization presents the project on Animal Identification and Registration Electronic System in Ukraine
24 June 2010, Kyiv: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization conducted an inception workshop in order to present new project - “Increasing resilience of small scale farmers to the impacts of soaring food prices by the use of animal identification and registration in Ukraine”. During the workshop project goals and objectives were discussed, and also the experience in the development of animal identification system and livestock products traceability system in EU member states.

UNICEF Regional Director calls Ukraine to invest more in children
24 June 2010, Kyiv: Today UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States Steven Allen has completed his first visit to Ukraine. Summarizing the results, he called for greater investments in children and continuing to improve care provided to HIV positive children and adolescents.

UN report card on anti-poverty goals shows mixed picture of progress and obstacles
23 June 2010, New - York: The world continues to make advances towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), despite the global economic downturn, but the rate of improvement remains too slow and countries must step up their efforts if the MDGs are to be achieved by their target date of 2015, a new United Nations report says.

Alarmed by inter-ethnic violence in Kyrgyzstan, UN rushes aid to victims
14 June 2010: United Nations relief agencies are dispatching emergency aid and staff to Central Asia, where tens of thousands of refugees have crossed into Uzbekistan as they flee several days of deadly ethnic clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan.
More than 75,000 ethnic Uzbeks are estimated to have fled Kyrgyzstan since Friday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported today, citing figures from the Government of Uzbekistan.

President meets IMF representatives

Announcement on principal recipient and proposal contest for inclusion in Ukraine’s consolidated Application to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria for Round 10, component “AIDS"
9 June 2010 - the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria has announced Round 10 of accepting country applications for grant funding for national programs.
With the purpose of compiling consolidated Ukraine’s proposal to the Global Fund, the following is announced hereby:
1. Collection of applications to compile Ukraine’s consolidated proposal, in accordance with the Procedure for Submitting Funding Applications for compiling the Global Fund Proposal.
All stakeholder organizations/entities and physical persons with experience in the area of HIV/AIDS are invited to submit applications.
2. GF Principal Recipient Contest carried out in accordance with the Provision on Selecting the Principal Recipient for the Grant of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria.

Better transport and logistic key to sustained export revival says World Bank
4 June 2010, Kyiv: The World Bank issued a new report, Ukraine: Trade and Transit
Facilitation Assessment on 27 May. The report, prepared
with financial assistance of Dutch grant assisting Ukraine to improve
its international competitiveness and public finance management,
provides a basic diagnostic of trade and transport logistics and
facilitation issues in the country. It looks at trade and transport
facilitation from the point of view of exporters and importers and makes
recommendations how Ukraine can fully exploit its geographic location
to become a transit hub in the region.

New UN-led public information campaign to promote biodiversity protection
2 June
2010, Kyiv: A group of 4 rare animals and a very rare flower are
expected to ‘come out’ into the streets across Ukraine, calling on
fellow-Ukrainians to stop cutting unique and scarce species from their
life.
Supported by the United Nations in Ukraine, the new Campaign - which
runs from early June till late December - joins a number of worldwide
celebrations and events dedicated to the International Year of
Biodiversity by focusing people’s attention on what needs to be done to
reduce the loss of biodiversity. The Campaign includes a string of 5
social advertising images, a series of special events and discussions.

International Children’s Day Observance in Ukraine

Different – but equal
Future poets, artists, musicians and even shoemakers gathered together on Town Square in Boryspil (Kyiv region) to participate in a remarkable fest held at the very beginning of summer, on International Children’s Day. The kids and young people all with various creative talents had one similarity – all of them are children with disabilities and educatees of “Nash Dim” (“Our Home”) mixed-type rehabilitation institution for disabled adults and children. Boryspil Employment Center was a co-organizer of the celebration.
