Ciklum offers peak resources

The Danish it-company, Mutax, began outsourcing strictly to lower costs. But since then Mutax has found skills in Ukraine which can't even be found in Denmark.

Mutax was founded in 2000 and develops time management and project handling systems primarily for public institutions. Mutax started outsourcing to Ukraine in November 2006 and has currently four employees in Kiev.

The Danish it-company Mutax is one of the newest us ers of Ciklum's ‘peak resources'. This service allows Mutax to make temporary us e of an expert with rare and highly specialized skills, when an immediate problem needs to be solved. Since November 2006 Mutax has us ed peak resources twice and in each case with great success.

"What makes Ciklum unique is their concept. Compared to all the other companies I talked to, Ciklum was the only company that could offer that," says director of Mutax, Glen Mansberg.

The first time Mutax made us e of Ciklum's peak resources was for a project called SureSMS, which allows a Microsoft Outlook- us er to send regular text messages to cellular phones. But in order to develop this service, Mutax needed qualifications that none of the company's own developers either in Denmark nor Ukraine possessed. With help from Ciklum an expert was hired for two months.

Before outsourcing to Ukraine Mutax considered setting up a partnership with a Ukranian it-company. But when hearing about Ciklum, a decision was made to build up an off-shore team instead.

"We think that having a dedicated group of people working on a project is the best solution," says Glen Mansberg. "Another alternative is ordering a service at a company that you don't know. But you never know exactly what you get until two days before the deadline."

When considering outsourcing Mutax had several considerations such as cultural differences, distance and – of cource – price. A decision was made on Ukraine , where the Danish embassy helped setting up meetings with different outsourcing companies.

"We quickly decided that Ciklums model suited our situation best," says Glen Mansberg, who has found that the culture is not that much different from his own.

"It surprised me that their it-infrastructure is so good and well functioning as it is. Before I thought that the power would shut of every two hours," says Glen Mansberg with a grin.

To start with Glen Mansberg travelled to Kiev about a week every month. As the employees get more confident with the work process and more can be done over the phone, the travel activity will lessen, he says.
