Working for regional security and economic development

The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) contributes to the delivery of good quality border and customs services to the citizens and companies of Moldova, Ukraine and the European Union. Together with border guard and customs services of Moldova and Ukraine the Mission facilitates people-to-people contacts, legitimate trade and security. Mission’s funding comes from the European Commission. Administrative and logistical support is provided by the United Nations Development Programme. >>>


What EUBAM does

Over 200 staff members of the Mission work along 1222 km of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. This includes more than one hundred customs and border guard experts from 22 EU Member States; representatives of several CIS countries in the UNDP contingent, and staff from Moldova and Ukraine. The Mission’s experts are located in six field offices: Basarabeasca, Chisinau, and Otaci in Moldova and Kotovsk, Kuchurhan, and Odesa Port in Ukraine. The Mission has its headquarters in Odesa, southern Ukraine. >>>

Slawomir Pichor appointed as Deputy Head of EUBAM 05.10.

Mr Slawomir Pichor was appointed Deputy Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine on 1st of October 2010. Mr Pichor has served as EUBAM Head of Operations since January 2008. >>>

EUBAM hands over 85,000 Euro kit to the State Border Guard Service 05.10.

Odessa, 5 October 2010. The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) handed over equipment worth over EUR 85,000 to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine today. During the official handing over ceremony the head of EUBAM Mr Udo Burkholder said ‘This equipment will support the implementation of EUBAM’s advises and recommendation thus helping the partner services move closer to European standards. Most of the equipment will be used at the regional level and will enhance the capacity of the units and detachments directly responsible for the security on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.’ >>>

EUBAM and the Odessa State Regional Administration host seminar Fighting Corruption in Public Administration 30.09.

Odessa, 30 September 2010. The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) and the Odessa State Regional Administration hosted a seminar today that aims to help cut corruption in state authorities. The Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission, Mr Udo Burkholder took part, as well as experts from the Prosecutors’ office, Security Service of Ukraine, Odessa regional administrations and other areas. >>>
