UN supports Government of Ukraine in conducting 2008 national survey on monitoring the Paris Declaration in Ukraine
In September 2008, ministers from all countries, heads of development agencies and civil society organizations from around the world will gather in Accra for the Third High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (2-4 September). Expectations are that the Forum will agree on an Accra Action Agenda identifying concrete steps to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Declaration.

UN condemns refoulement of Sri Lankan asylum seekers from Ukraine
10 March 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine. The United Nations Country Team in Ukraine* is concerned by the recent refoulement of a group of 11 Sri Lankans by the Ukrainian authorities. They were forcibly returned from Ukraine - a group of 5 persons on 4 March and another group of 6 people on 5 March - to their home country.

On the International Women's Day UN Secretary-General urged Member States to muster the political will in realizing gender equality worldwide
8 March, 2008. At the 2005 World Summit, Governments of all nations agreed that "progress for women is progress for all". Yet the 10-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action revealed a serious gap between policy and practice in many countries. A lack of political will is reflected in the most telling way of all: lack of resources and insufficient budgetary allocations. That is why the theme of this International Women's Day is "Investing in Women and Girls".

WHO: New survey finds highest rates of drug-resistant tuberculosis to date
26 February 2008, Washington/Geneve -- Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) has been recorded at the highest rates ever, according to a new report published today. The report presents findings from the largest survey to date on the scale of drug resistance in tuberculosis.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Launches Campaign to End Violence against Women
New York, 25 February - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is launching today a multi-year campaign to intensify action to end violence against women and girls. At least one out of every three women in the world is likely to be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime, according to UN estimates, and one in five women will become a victim of rape or attempted rape.

UNDP expert gets an award from Ukrainian President
13 February, 2008. Kyiv. After 15 years of negotiations since the submission of application back in 1993, Ukraine has finally obtained full-fledged membership in the World Trade Organization. This success could not be achieved without a team of excellent negotiators, to which UNDP Ukraine expert Iryna Kobouta has competently assisted throughout 2001-2008 and she will be awarded a medal "Za pratsu i zvytiagu" ("For Work and Merit") by the President of Ukraine.

IOM and Global Compact signatory GALNAFTOGAS launch trafficking prevention campaign in Ukraine
