The ILO summed up its Project «Consolidating the Legal and Institutional Foundations of Social Dialogue in Ukraine»

the ILO convened a closing seminar of the Project “Consolidating the
legal and institutional foundations of social dialogue in Ukraine”.
The
Project which was implemented by the ILO under the donorship of German
government in 2006-2009 focused on the following areas: promoting
the labour law reform (namely preparation of the draft Labour Code and
Social Dialogue Law) compliant to the EU and international standards and assisting in establishment of effective institutional framework for social dialogue.

International Day of Older Persons
1 October 2009. New-York - Kyiv - This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Older Persons. On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has emphasized that we must put an end to age discrimination, abuse, neglect and
violence against older persons. I urge states to put the necessary
legal protections in place, and I urge all partners to help countries
develop the capacity and institutions to achieve this objective. The theme this year is: "Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of Older Persons: Towards a Society for All Ages".

Ukrainian Teenager Wins International Danube Art Master Competition
29 September 2009. Vienna, Austria – A young artist from Ukraine has won the International Danube Art Master 2009 Competition, the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) announced today.
The winning submission was created by 15 year-old Vasyl Vataman, with the artwork entitled “Water Gives Life”, which can be viewed at the following link: http://www.icpdr.org/icpdr-pages/dam2009.htm. The work, a miniaturist recreation of the Danube ecosystem, presents the strip of the Danube that is familiar to the artist: his village cut in half by the river with its particular features like a wooden bridge, fountain, a small house and roads.

– Over 100 participants have gathered at a collective ecological event
Zelena toloka entitled “Bought a car? – Plant a tree!” which resulted in planting
three hundreds trees in the capital’s “Poznyaky” park. Being aware of
the rising numbers of cars used in the capital of Ukraine and its
negative impact on the environmental situation, Global Compact network
Ukraine together with the leading auto dealers – Group of companies NIKO, Nissan Motor
Ukrane and Toyota Ukraine – and the Charitable Fund “Ukraine! I am for
you!” organized a tree planting activity to help reduce CO2 emissions
and improve the image of the capital, renowned for its abundant
greenery and parks.

For the first time Ukraine commemorated World Humanitarian Day
19 August, 2009. Kyiv, Ukraine - Today World Humanitarian Day was observed for the first time worldwide, including Ukraine. The Day was eestablished by the General Assembly (GA) of the United Nations in December 2008 and designated to increase public understanding of humanitarian assistance activities worldwide. The Day also aims to honour humanitarian workers who have lost their lives or been injured in the course of their work.
