About a half of all Ukrainians find the freedom of speech level in Ukraine sufficient, according to the results of a poll conducted by Research & Branding Group presented on Wednesday at a press conference in Kyiv.
According to the poll, 49.2% of the respondents think that Ukraine's level of freedom of speech is sufficient, and 19.6% think the opposite. Another 24.2% said that there is too much of freedom of speech in Ukraine, and 7% gave no answer.
According to the data, 62% of respondents in Western Ukraine consider the level of freedom of speech sufficient, and in the central and southeastern regions the figures were 44% and 47%, respectively.
Twenty-seven percent of respondents in both central and southeastern regions consider the freedom of speech excessive.
Moreover, 26% of the citizens think that it is reasonable to put limitations on the freedom of speech for the sake of national security, and to protect some citizens' dignity and reputation.
The poll was conducted on October 2-12, 2009, the data was collected through personal interviews. A total of 3,119 respondents from all Ukrainian regions and Crimea were interviewed. The poll's margin of error is 2.2%.
