On July 23, at 13:30, PRESS CENTER of the Ukrainian News information agency was hosted a PRESS CONFERENCE by organizers and participants in the SvirZ festival of world cultures entitled "Festival Movement in Ukraine and European Examples: Can SvirZ Become Ukrainian Sziget?"

The festival takes place from July 31 though August 2 in the village of Svirzh, Lviv region.

The organizers and the participants will comment on opportunities for the growth in the level of the Ukrainian festivals to the world level because of the experience of the work on the SvirZ festival.

The press conference will concern the following questions:

• Adopting European experience: programme and organisational innovations of the SvirZ festival;
• Final phase of SvirZ preparations: achievements and hurdles;
• Importance of SvirZ for Ukrainian performers;
• The Svirzh Castle built in the XV century: a burden or a source of profits for the national budget?
• What and who hinders improvement of Ukrainian festivals?
• Will SvirZ become a "window to Ukraine" for Europe??

Participants will include:

• Armine Garbielyan, Gabri Promotion Centre chief executive, director of the SvirZ festival,
• Dmytro Shurov, member of the Esthetic Education band,
• Vadym Krasnookyi, leader of the Mad Heads XL band,
• Taras Chubai, leader of the Plach Yeremii group,
• Serhii Boiko, spokesperson for Artmax Engineering, a company providing technical support of the festival.

Profile:

The SvirZ festival for the first time is held in the World Music format, it can be regarded as a European event in relation to the participating performers. These are more than 60 groups and separate musicians, such well known as Cesaria Evora, Nino Katamadze, Zdob si Zdub, and others, as well as Ukrainian highest rank bands like Vopli Vidopliasova, Plach Yeremiii, Mad Heads XL, Esthetic Education, and many others. The organisers introduced an innovative system of electronic advance booking of tickets and for the first time in Ukraine introduced an option of paying for tickets with help of an electronic pay system.

On July 21, organizers started building the main rock and folk stage of the festival. Agreements have been reached and arrangements made with most of the festival partners. All foreign performers have affirmed their participation and posted information about the participation in the festival on their Web pages. The score line will not be changed. Organisers' expect round 30,000 guests at the event.

The festival sounds for two goals: to present Ukrainians world cultural wealth and vice versa, open Ukraine, its music and culture in general for the world. Another objective of the festival is to attract attention to the Svirzh Castle, an architectural monument dating back to the XV century, in the vicinity thereof the festival will be taking place. The castle is in the state emergency despite the last year declared a year of castles in western Ukraine. Festival director Armine Garbielyan said that such architectural monuments must bring profits and not be a burden for the national budget. Sziget is one of the biggest music festivals in Europe. It has been held on the Obuda island in Budapest since 1993. Nearly 400,000 people attend the festival every year, about half of them coming from outside of Hungary. World's best bands play at the festival, it provides maximum comfort for the viewers.

Gabri Promotion Centre, organiser of the SvirZ festival, is also famous for promoting the Yurkesh rock group, folk band Bozhychi, vocal band Concord and for arranging in 2008 an exhibition of collages by a Ukrainian film director Serhii Paradzhanov.
