What is WAP?

WAP – is the Wireless Application Protocol designed to access the information and services throughout the Internet directly from your mobile phone. The major benefit of WAP is that users are not required to have any additional appliances to connect to the Internet – computer or modem. The only thing you need is a WAP-supported phone!

WAP-protocol describes which data is transferred from the Internet to a mobile phone and visa versa. A cellular phone memory contains a special program – WAP-browser that allows receiving information from Internet to display it on handset of a mobile phone screen.

To ensure that the Internet information is reflected the handset of your phone screen, information resource (website) should be programmed in a special language WML (wireless markup language). Unfortunately, regularly HTML-programmed websites may not be reflected in WAP-Protocol.

The number of WAP-websites is increasing daily globally delivering more options to cellular communication users. Feeling the demand for information services, more and more companies create two online resources simultaneously – a regular WEB-site and a mirror WAP-site.

MTS offered cellular users to use WAP-supported information services by opening an information WAP-Portal in Ukraine. Currently MTS WAP-Portal is a developed portal offering multiple services and information topics.
