the National Philharmonic of Ukraine
HISTORY
The Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine was created in September, 1995, as main musical collective of the Lysenko Concert Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. This Hall counts above centenary tradition, has unique architecture and acoustics and is one of prestige in Europe.
Leonid Tykhonov was the first conductor of the Orchestra. In 1996, young gifted conductor Mykola Dyadura headed the orchestra. At the same time, there was nearly complete renewal of orchestra’s staff with the best graduating students of higher musical educational institutions of Ukraine. So, talented young musicians came to work along with experienced ones.
The first steps of orchestra were supported by prominent musicians, such as Roman Kofman, Krzysztof Penderecki, Mikis Theodorakis, Volodymyr Krajnev. In the year 1999, first in Ukraine, the young collective got a grant from the Government of Japan for acquisition of musical instruments “Yamaha”.
Today, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine is acknowledged as one of the best collectives of the East Europe being a noticeable figure of European musical life.

Achievements: We gave more than 500 concerts, created about 300 new programs. The range of the Orchestra interest spreads on all genres, styles, and epochs.

First in Ukraine, works of Berlioz “Romeo and Juliet”, “Requiem” and “Te Deum” were performed (within the framework of the Festival dedicated to 200 anniversary of the composer’s birth).

The known choral collectives of Ukraine and of the world have become the traditional creative partners of the orchestra: National Academic Choir of Ukraine “Dumka”, the Big Children’s Choir of the National Radio Company of Ukraine, the Revutsky’s State Male Chapel of Ukraine, the Choir of the Opera of Toulon.
CONCERT TOURS AND FESTIVALS
On October 30, 1998, the first foreign concert of the Orchestra happened in the Munich Philharmonic, where M.Theodorakis’ works were performed, and the author was conducting it. The success of this concert launched the energetic tour activity of the orchestra. Numerous concert turns in Germany, Spain, France, Switzerland, Poland, and Turkey had the place. The Orchestra appeared in the prestige concert halls of Berlin, Cologne, Munich, and Barcelona Philharmonics.
The Orchestra became the base collective of the known International Musical Festival “La Chaise-Dieu” in France. It presented with success the musical culture of Ukraine in Switzerland (Ukraine culture days in Switzerland).
The Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine is a permanent participant of international festivals in Ukraine and Europe: “Kiev Music Fest” (Kiev), “Musical premieres of season” (Kiev), “Vladimir Krajnev, invites...” (Kiev), “Virtuosos” (Lviv), musical festivals in St.Maximin (France), “La Chaise-Dieu” (France), sacred music in Marseille (France), “Le Melomany” Annonay, Vienne (France), Wroclaw (Poland), Bleckede (Germany), Hector Berlioz’ festival in La Cote de Saint-Andre (France).
Last years the Orchestra had been on tours in towns of Ukraine: Mukolaiv, Herson, Kirovograd, Vinnytsya, Poltava, Cherkasy.
In 2007 the Orchestra realized its second concert tour in Japan with the famous American violinist Joseph Lynn, performing in such Halls as Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Osaka Symnphony Hall.
In November 2007, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine appeared at the Warsaw Philharmonic.
In October, the Orchestra realized its first concert tour in Switzerland, organized by the Foundation for Education, Culture and Arts "ESPERIA". Concerts were performed in Tonhalle (Zurich), Casino Concerthaus (Bern) and Auditorium Stravinsky in Montreaux.
