The United Nations in Ukraine in partnership with the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine and with the support of OLYMPUS company invites to participate in the national photography contest “ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE - CARING ABOUT OUR PLANET”.
Background:
Global climate change is one of the most topical issues for humanity today. The most visible consequences of climate change can be such “extreme situations” as draughts, floods, storms, hurricanes, extremely hot day that will happen more often and also the danger of ecosystems disappearance.
The water level is expected to go up and ocean currents are expected to drastically change due to climate change. As a result we will face problems with water supply and degradation of agricultural soil and forests.
Objective:
This photography contest is aimed at raising awareness on importance of addressing climate change challenges and promoting responsible attitude towards environment among decision-makers and general public.
Deadline:
Deadline for submitting photos - by 20 May 2008.
The
winners will be
awarded during the ceremony and exhibition opening on World Environment Day - 5
June 2008. The exhibition will be opened till 15 June
2008 at the Institute
of Contemporary Art
(Vorovskogo 30, Kyiv).
Results of the photo contest will also be announced at www.un.org.ua and www.olympus.ua.
Requirements:
Photos taken in Ukraine
and other countries can be submitted for this photography contest.
Colour and black-and-white
photographs are accepted in this contest.
The entries must meet the
following requirements:
- TIFF or JPEG format
- 300 dpi resolution
- 20 cm x 30 cm
How to submit entries:
Option # 1: Send your entries to us by post
Colored or black and white photo prints (30x40 cm)
and copies of your entries on a CD in TIFF or JPEG format, 300 dpi to be sent

People's Choice Award

People's Choice Prize will be awarded based upon the results of open voting at www.un.org.ua that will take place till 20 May 2008.
The photocontest "Climate Change: Caring of our Planet" will have a separate nomination PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD. The winner will be selected based on the results of voting of Photocontest Gallery visitors. You can vote for the photo you like only once. To vote please click on the photo and choose the quantity of stars you would like to award in the second row under the photo. The winner will be awarded with a photo camera µ 850 SW provided by the Olympus company.
Please note that entries can be submitted by 20 May 2008. Internet voting will be closed on 30 May 2008 at 15:00 Kyiv time.

Selection Panel:
The selection panel of the photo contest “CARING ABOUT OUR PLANET – ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE” will consist of 5 members – representatives of Ministry of Environment Protection, UN Office in Ukraine, company OLYMPUS, media partners and Ukrainian photographer.

The national photo contest “CARING ABOUT OUR PLANET – ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE” devoted to the World Environment Day is initiated by the UN in Ukraine in partnership with the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine and with support of OLYMPUS company and also media partners magazine “Photographer”, newspaper “Segodnya”, magazine “What’s On”. The venue is provided by the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Conditions for the submission of entries:
By entering the photography
contest, the photographer gives permission to organizers to use the material
submitted to the contest in eventual exhibitions resulting from the contest and
in all promotional material, brochures.
The organizers will ensure due
recognition and acknowledgement to the photographer.
The submitted material will not
be returned.
By entering the competition, the participant agrees to the contest's
rules and conditions.
