State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia has sold over 5,000 tickets via the Internet since the service was launched, Oleksandr Invanko, the head of the main passenger department in Ukrzaliznytsia, said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
"Currently over 5,000 tickets have been booked and sold, 50% of them through Ukrposhta (the post office service)," he said.
As reported, on December 22, 2008, Ukrzaliznytsia implemented the first stage of a project to sell tickets via the Internet. Passengers book tickets on the Web site of Ukrzaliznytsia, pays for booking the ticket with the help of a payment card, receives a bar code, and then buys his ticket in the railways booking office on presenting the bar code.
