Before going abroad

To make your communication outside Ukraine maximum comfortable you should:

  1. Read the section roaming. You may also get additional information calling our operator: (067) 466 2 466.
  2. Check if the country/countries where you are traveling provide automatic roaming service to Kyivstar subscribers.
  3. If you are going to use MMS, WAP GPRS/EDGE, Internet GPRS/EDGE, Mobile E-mail, make sure that in countries, you are planning to visit, Kyivstar subscribers are rendered with GPRS roaming service. Also make sure that you have activated GPRS. In addition, you don’t need to change settings.
  4. While going to foreign country one should learn which tariff zone this country belongs to.
  5. Check that you have enough to make calls in roaming. Please remember that the trash hold of automatic disconnection of international roaming service is 200 UAH for outgoing calls and 50 UAH for incoming.
  6. Make sure that your mobile phone is compatible with the network of the country where you are traveling. For example you have the hand set of the standard GSM 900/1800 and you are traveling to the country where Kyivstar has roaming agreement only with operators that support 3G, PCS 1900, iDEN 800 or W-CDMA standards. In this case you will have to buy or rent the hand set of the corresponding standard to be able to make and receive calls and send SMS.

Note:

  • Please always switch off your mobile phone before boarding the plane. Mobile phone operation can interfere with operation of navigation system.
  • Remember that most countries prohibit using the mobile phone without a special car-set or hands free-set when driving. Some countries fine for that. When planning your trip abroad, check the effective country regulations on using mobile phone. Pay attention to the voltage in the country where you are traveling it may differ from the voltage in Ukraine (220 V). In this case you will need a corresponding adaptor to charge your mobile telephone.
  • If you want to use your phone book in mobile phone please make sure that all the numbers are stored in the international format (for example Kyiv number should be +380 44 ÕÕÕ ÕÕ ÕÕ).

Making call

In order to make an outgoing call when abroad you have to dial the needed number in the international format, i.e. +, country code, city code or mobile operators network code, subscribers number.

For example:

When calling to Ukraine to Kyivstar subscriber you should dial:

  • + 38 067 ÕÕÕÕÕÕÕ,
  • where «+» — is access to international line,
  • 380 — Ukraine code,
  • 67 — network code,
  • ÕÕÕÕÕÕÕ — subscriber’s number.

If your are calling to Moscow, Russia to the fixed network subscriber, you should dial:

  • + 7 495 ÕÕÕÕÕÕÕ,
  • where «+» — is access to international line,
  • 7 — Russia ode,
  • 495 — Moscow code,
  • ÕÕÕÕÕÕÕ — subscriber’s number.

«+» dialing rules are described in the manual to your mobile phone.

Note:

  • When using the number identification function when abroad, the number may be identified incorrectly.

Operator selection

We advise to set automatic network search mode on your phone – in this case phone will select network with best signal strength.

The process of automatic registration and operators network may take some time. If during several minutes the registration is not completed we recommend you to use the mode of manual operators network selection. For that your should:

Select «Network Selection» section in the menu of your telephone and set «Manual» mode. You will see the list of all the networks, which provide coverage in the area where you are staying. Select the network of the operator with Kyivstar supports international roaming.

If the registration was successfully completed your mobile phone will display the name or code of the operators network in which your mobile telephone registered. (Additional information on manual network selection could be found in the manual to your mobile telephone).

Note: Kyivstar Company is not responsible for the quality of communication or coverage of other operators.

  • Please remember that the trash hold of automatic disconnection of international roaming service is 200 UAH for outgoing calls and 50 UAH for incoming.
  • When in roaming your phone number will not change this means that the order of dialing your number and cost of calls for subscribers who call you will not change either. You don’t have to inform all people who are calling you that you are traveling abroad.

Note:

  • Being an Kyivstar subscriber you may recharge your account and check the balance only by using USSD technology (if the foreign operator supports this service).
  • Let’s assume that subscriber wants to know about his or her balance status. In order to use this service, a subscriber dials the following symbols *111# on his or her handset and presses the call key. This procedure does not differ from making an ordinary call. Most of the handsets will display the word — Requesting — instead of usual — Calling. It means that GSM network is trying to process subscriber’s request.
  • In order to activate scratch-card with XXXXXXXXXXXXXX code, subscribers just have to dial the following succession of symbols:
  • Balance recharge with scratch-cards — *123* XXXXXXXXXXXXXX#
where XXXXXXXXXXXXXX is the scratch-card number.
After the request is processed the information about transaction execution or the failure warning will appear on the handset display.
  • Scratch-cards should be bought before departing abroad, because they are distributed only in Ukraine. You may recharge your account abroad by asking you friends or relatives to send to you the scratch code via SMS.
  • The minimal balance on your account which will allow you to make an outgoing is 250 UAH, incoming — 50 UAH.
  • Kyivstar reserves the right to change rates without preliminary notification of its subscribers.
  • In order to minimize expenses you can disable «Automatic reception» in MMS settings and set «Manual» or «At request» reception. In this case, phone will perform downloading only after your confirmation. If you don’t want to pay for GPRS traffic — don’t download message.
