WHAT DOES SUMMER 2009 LOOKS LIKE FOR YWAM LUTSK?
This summer is full to overflowing with activities, camps, and outreaches that we shall be involved in – please let us know if you have time or are interested in serving with us in any of these activities.
June 10-13th Several of our YWAM Lutsk team will be working in a village just outside of Lutsk doing an evangelistic program for children.
June 14-27th The Dental Truck from YWAM Kyiv will be joining us here in Lutsk for a two week period. We will first work together in a village, the same village from the previous week's outreach, to provide dental care for those who are unable to afford dental work – particularly focusing on children, elderly, and disabled persons. The following week we will work together with Resurrection church in Lutsk to provide dental care for underprivileged children in the city. This church has a home for children as well as a feeding program & clothing program for the children in the area surrounding the church.
July 10- August 21st We will be involved in working with kids in a day camp for 6 weeks. Monday through Friday we will meet in the park to play games with the children, plan activities, and share a story with Biblical principles and life application. Even now the kids are plying us with questions about camp this summer.
August 10-14th Family Camp is a special event which helps families to draw closer to one another – through spending time together, growing spiritually, and discovering God's original plan for family life.
WORKING ALONG SIDE LOCAL MINISTRY
In Ukraine the abortion statistics are unbelievably high. Seventy percent of pregnancies are terminated through the used of abortion. According to the official statistics, there are over 3 million abortions done in Ukraine every year. But this number doesn't include the so called mini-abortions, which are done at the early stages of pregnancy - before 5 weeks. Approximately two million unrecorded mini-abortions are done every year. So, every year, 5 million human lives are terminated in Ukraine as a result of abortions!
We understand what others go through and desire to help these women see the truth - that are alternatives to abortion. For almost a year a group of women in Lutsk, Ukraine, have been gathering together, praying and preparing themselves for this ministry.
International day of protecting children (May 31st)
On this special day several of our YWAM Lutsk team served with the Women’s Help Center in organizing an event in the midst of our city with the permission from the government. We had big banners proclaiming “Children are a gift from God”, “God loves all children, born and unborn” and advertisements for the center – as well as contact information. There was a table with lots of literature and small posters to give away for free. About 40 volunteers from different churches of Lutsk were involved and with their help we were able to obtain research from over 1,000 people concerning abortion.
Several of the women from the Help Center were working with life-sized models of babies in the womb. The eyes of people when they saw these models revealed much. As the people held the baby models in their hands at the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th, week of pregnancy, and big ones at the 14th and 18th weeks of pregnancy, it was amazing to see their reaction! There is a saying, “It is better to see something once than to hear about it 100 times”. We certainly found this to be true. There were some women who did not want to hold the fetal models in their hands and others who left immediately. Our hearts were breaking for them.
There was one young lady who was very attentive to what has being said. She stood there all alone holding the 4 little models all together in her hand and kept touching them. As we talked with this young lady we found she is in her 8th week of pregnancy and is uncertain what to do with this child growing inside of her. The young lady took our contact information and we are praying that she will contact us with further questions.
Since this event the office of Eve's Women's Help Center is open for counseling, pregnancy tests, & advice about contraception. Please pray for us as we work together across denominational & cultural boundary lines to impact the hearts and lives of these women and their children.
