PRESIDENT OF OJSC "RODOVID BANK"
I, Sergey Bubka, was born on December 4, 1963 in Lugansk. In 1983 I became the honored master of sport. In 1987 I graduated from the Kiev State Institute of Physical Culture and in 2002 became a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. Since 1983 till 1997 I obtained six times the rank of world champion in pole-vaulting. I am World and Europe Cups winner (1985), Champion of Europe (1986). In 1988 – a Champion in ÕÕ²V Olympic games in Seoul. During my sporting career I have held 35 world records.
My sporting activity is marked by many rewards: the Order of Red Banner of Labor (1988), Order of Lenin (1989), Hero of Ukraine award (2001), the Honorary Decoration of the President of Ukraine (1994). In 2003 I was a winner of the national action “Ukraine’s Stars” and designated as UNESCO Champion for Sport. I was acknowledged thrice as the best sportsman in the world. I am multiple IAAF Grand Prix holder. In 1997 I was named Champion of Champions by L’Equipe sport newspaper. I have been listed in the Guinness Book of Records for major world achievements in Track and Field sports.
In 1999 I became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and since 2000 – a member of the IOC executive committee. In 1996 I was a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, and since 2002 I have been elected as its Chairman. In 2007 I was elected as the first vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.
From 2002 till 2006 year I was a People’s Deputy of Ukraine, member of the Supreme Soviet Committee of Ukraine for youth policy, physical culture, sport and tourism.
Since 2004 I have been a President of OJSC “RODOVID BANK”.
On June 23, 2005 at the 18th extraordinary General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) I was elected as a President of the NOC of Ukraine. On November 23, 2006 I was re-elected for a new term of four years as a President of the NOC.
