About UNDP in Ukraine

UN Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

In Ukraine, four development focus areas define the structure of UNDP's assistance activities. These include democratic governance; prosperity, poverty reduction and MDGs; local development and human security; and energy and environment. In each of these thematic areas, UNDP tries to ensure balance between policy and advocacy work, capacity building activities and pilot projects.UNDP established its presence in Ukraine in 1993.

6 June: "1+1" Television News and the UN Development Programme in Ukraine are launching a social initiative "Clean Country". On 6 June 2009, on the occasion of World Environment Day, TV news correspondents together with UN officers and activists from an ecological charity "Green Dossier" are planning to clean the rubbish in a number of the country's most popular national parks. UNDP holds interactive workshop to share best practices in decentralization

Yaremche (Ivano-Frankivsk Region) 28-29 May: About 40 local councillors from AR Crimea and other regions of Ukraine and leading experts in the area of decentralization and local self-governance have gathered to share innovate practices of local governance and their application experience in Ukraine at a workshop organized by the UNDP-led Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme with support of Canadian International Development Agency. The participants improved their capacities in social mobilisation, strategic, operational and financial planning and innovative practives in local self-governance across Ukraine.

Justice Minister to present UNDP-supported National campaign “Stop violence!” to his European counterparts

Kyiv, 28 May: United Nations has called on Ukraine to improve national laws on domestic violence and resolving gender problems. Justice Minister Mykola Onischuk and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka discussed these matters at a meeting in Kyiv.
