The College of Biology
The College trains specialists granting the following Bachelor’s (4 years) and Master’s (5 years) degrees of full-time and part-time studying in:
- Agronomics
- Biology
- Geodesy, Cartography and System of Land Tenure
- Ecology, Environmental Protection and Balanced Environmental
- Management
- Psychology
There are seven departments: Biochemistry; Botany and Environmental Protection; Zoology; General and Experimental Ecology; Physiology and Medical Psychology; Soil Studies and System of Land tenure; Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology.
Over 70 academics (8 full professors, 45 candidates of science)explore molecular mechanisms of contratumor and radioprotection medication of natural and chemical origin; microclone reproduction of plants and in-vitro culture; ecosystems under extreme conditions; biology of soils and biological processes modeling; flora and fauna of Bukovyna; introduction and acclimatization; wildlife protection; problems of medical psychology and ecological psychology.
The College has a specialized Academic Council for conferring Doctorate and Candidate degrees in Biochemistry and Ecology.
The College's unique Zoological Museum, the Herbarium at the Department of Botany, the Arboretum of the Botanical Gardens were given the national status.
The museum funds have valuable antique hundred years old exhibits. The unique Herbarium at the Department of Botany totals over 200,000 plant specimens from Bukovyna and Romania regions, the Botanical Gardens has a plant collection of over 2,000 species from all over the world.
