Formal accuracy, unambiguousness, and precision of the language used are of prime importance to a lawyer. These qualities are required for the preparation of investigative and judicial documents, when it is necessary to comply not only with the generally accepted literary norms and standards, but also with the rules applicable to the preparation of legal documents (knowledge of various legal forms and documents, their mandatory details and clichés, professional requirements). Training undertaken by aspiring and current legal practitioners should place a strong emphasis on the formation of monologic speech skills. Mastery of professional language norms and standards, as well as an excellent command of specific legal vocabulary, is an absolute must for a lawyer.

Course aim: formation of such language skills and speech characteristics as grammatical correctness, precision,  consistency, purity, appropriateness, expressiveness, effectiveness.

Course objectives:
-  consolidating and reinforcing skills related to compliance with literary norms and standards;
- forming the specialist’s communicative competence;
- mastering professional communication skills in the chosen field;
- developing eloquence as a means of preparation for complex professional communicative situations (negotiations, discussions etc.);
- enhancing compliance with conversational speech standards, mastering verbal means used to establish and maintain friendly interpersonal relations.

Skills to be formed during the course:
- ability to exercise control over language precision, consistency and expressiveness;
- ability to define the objective of and understand the communicative situation;
- ability to take into account social and individual personality features of the interlocutor;

- skills associated with the generation of texts in various styles and registers.
The course is built around the concept of business simulation and case study. Knowledge and skills introduced in each subject are immediately practiced and honed through practical games simulating real business situations. To develop writing skills, such methods as stylistic proofreading, text editing, outline preparation, text  abridgement and expansion etc. are used.
