North Korea which has announced a launch window of April 4 to 8 says it would regard a rocket intercept as an act of war. More than 60 years later the 93-year-old became the first and only known survivor of both attacks yesterday to win official recognition from Japanese authorities. While other survivors died prematurely from cancer and liver disease caused by their exposure to radiation Yamaguchi remains in relatively good health apart from near-deafness in one ear and complaints that his legs are “growing weak”. Japanese records show dozens of people experienced the blast in Hiroshima only to be exposed to “residual radiation” in Nagasaki three days later. But Yamaguchi is the first to have been at ground zero when both explosions occurred. According to a newspaper interview Yamaguchi gave on the 60th anniversary of the end of the Pacific war he had spent the conflict designing oil tankers for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries a wartime zaibatsu or conglomerate whose shipyards dominated the Nagasaki skyline.

This new machine — starting at $699 — melds together a wish-list of what I’d hoped I’d see in my Kitchen of TomorrowTM. It’s just a shame that Japan retailers get to play with the Studio ne 19 this week while it isn’t slated to appear stateside until “sometime this spring. ” That’s not stopping me from sharing my two cents on this computing conversation piece right now since I just came out of a product demo:.

Dollar up vs. yen as trade deficit narrows
MarketWatch
Weak yen Some strategists question whether the Japanese yen has fully lost its luster as a popular safe-haven currency. Last fall the yen was the ultimate beneficiary of plunging global equities and rising financial turmoil as traders unwound once-popular carry trades or sought refuge in the Japanese currency. That relationship appeared to weaken this year amid a rising focus on Japan’s own deep economic woes and ideas that deleveraging in favor of the yen had largely run its course.

Now defending World Baseball Classic champion Japan will have a chance to make the 82-year-old former Cuban president regret it. Cuba routed host Mexico 16-4 in a Thursday game halted after seven innings by the mercy rule to book a second-round date with Japan here on Sunday the same day Mexico will open against reigning lympic champion South Korea. The Japanese “Samurai” will face unbeaten Cuba seeking a 39th consecutive trip to a global tournament final in the same stadium where they defeated the Communist island’s squad 10-6 in the final of the inaugural 2006 Classic. Castro had said that he hoped Cuba would have the chance for revenge against Japan for the 2006 loss and that the teams might meet again for this year’s title sentiments echoed by Cuban manager Higinio Velez after the triumph. “We’re actually fulfilling both things” Velez said.
