Kyiv - the Capital of Ukraine
Kyiv (spelt Kiev in Russian), the capital of Ukraine, is one of the oldest and most charming cities in Eastern Europe with the population of about 2.6 million. Founded more than 1,500 years ago in 482 AD, Kyiv stands paramount as the administrative, economic, research, cultural, and educational centre of the new independent state of Ukraine. The geographical location of Kyiv is advantageous for the development of foreign economic relations. Kyiv lies on a major intersection of major trunk highways of trans-European importance, connecting the city in all directions with most cities in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Kyiv is a great Eastern European cultural centre, boasting more than 2,000 historical, cultural, and architectural monuments. The city combines outstanding cathedrals, churches, and monasteries from the XI and subsequent centuries with new architecture from its independent era.
