The palace was built fo one of the richest aristocratic families of Russia related to the imperial dynasty. Its owner, Prince Felix Yusupov Count Sumarokov-Elston, was Governor-General of Moskow, and his wife, Princess Zinaida Yusupova, was reputed to be one of the most brilliant women of Europe during the late 19th century. Their son, Felix Yusupov Jr., was the only heir to the estate.

 

The villa was built in the early 20 th century for merchant Demin in the ancient park, 70 meters from the sea. After the nationalization the villa was used as a summer dacha for the soviet leaders and their families: Lunacharsky, Krylenko, Voroshylov, Andropov, Brezhnev, Pelshe, Kosygin, Gromyko, and the leaders of socialist countries and revolutionary movements: Bela Kun, Mao Tse Dung, Moris Torez, Yanosh Kadar and their families.
