Kyiv city administration plans to complete construction of three subway stations toward the residential area of Teremky from the existing Lybidska station to the Vasylkivska station at Kurenivsko-Chervonoarmiiska line in December, said Anatoliy Holubchenko, deputy mayor.

"We have a chance to launch [the three subway stations] before the New Year and transport first passengers during  the New Year holidays," Holubchenko said.

However, he said there a problem with financing the construction because the revenue targets of this year’s city budget are not met. Besides, there are complications in construction of the section between the existing Lybidska and the new Demiyivska station because builders have to struggle with three small underground rivers.

Head of the Kyiv Metro company Petro Miroshnykov said his company has Hr 650 million more to complete construction of the three stations.

Miroshnykov added that raising subway tariffs to Hr 2 per ride as proposed by the city officials would speed up construction. When finished, The section under construction will be 20 to 30 meters deep, with 6 to 14 meters of soil above the tunnel.

Good news indeed,
But I am still wondering why this new metro line in 100% underground, while it would have been possible to have a surface metro line, at least twice cheaper and faster to build....
