Business leaders clean up city within the framework of "Go Green" national campaign of UN Global Compact Network in Ukraine | |

11 October 2008. Kyiv, Ukraine - UN Global Compact Network in Ukraine conducted clean-up event "Clean City is a Beautiful Place to Be".
This is already the second collective action in the framework of “Go Green” national campaign on climate change, presented in July 2008. The event was held at Trukhaniv island in Kyiv on Saturday, October 11, 11:00-13:30. More than 100 representatives of business-, diplomatic- and art community, representatives of the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, Kyiv City Administration and public organizations took part in the event.
Ms. Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Ms. Svitlana Aridova, Deputy Head of Communications Department, Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, diplomatic corps and Kyiv City Administration representatives welcomed the participants of the clean up event.

EcoClub helped to make the wedding “green” Wedding is an outstanding event in every life. Is it possible to make it outstanding for others? Is it possible to share your love with those who need it most? ‘Yes!’ – said young Ukrainian couple. Oleg Okhtyrskyj (Ukraine) and Francheska Cherichi (Italy) decided to make their wedding useful for nature and society; they’ve managed to make it “green”. So what does it mean? To help community: Oleg and Francheska refused from traditional wedding

II Annual EcoClub ‘Green Wave’ Presentation for Students | |

EcoClub has presented its activity to the students of National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Kyiv, Ukraine). The annual event aims to interest new students and to stimulate their participation.
On the campus center different promoting activities took place. Students were offered to make a funny photo, to draw on the asphalt, to get a body-art picture, and to make an origami. Then the shot presentation was made indoor. EcoClub Head described the main projects and explained the way new members can participate in the life of organization, then elder members shared their experience.

Dirty Cities of Ukraine | |

Makeevka, Dneprodzerzhinsk, Odessa,
Donetzk and Horlovka are the dirtiest cities of Ukraine. According to
the Emergencies Ministry, air contains the most number of harmful
substances in these settlements. The residents of industrial
centers breathe not only dust, but also heavy metals, phenols,
anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, benzapyrene, nitrogen dioxide and other
compounds. The central geophysical laboratory of the Emergencies
Ministry registered the most critical state of atmosphere on the east

Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine determined | |

The All-Ukrainian action Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine which started in November 2007 has been summarized.
The "seven wonders" include a biosphere reserve in Kherson region Askania-Nova, the Dniester Canyon in Ternopil region, granite-steppe Pobuzhzhia; a landscape park located in the valley of the Southern Buh River in Mykolayiv region; the Marble Cave in Crimea; Podilski Tovtry, a national natural park in Khmelnytskyi region called the Ukrainian Switzerland; the deepest Ukrainian lake Svitiaz in Volyn and Carpathian lake of Synevir. 35 ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS URGE TO INCORPORATE ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS INTO PLANNING FOR EURO 2012 EUROPEAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP | |

Kyiv, May 22, 2008 – Ukrainian environmental organizations appealed to Ukrainian Government and Euro 2012 National Agency of Ukraine to incorporate environmental standards into planning for the 2012 Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) European Football Championship.
“The Euro-2012 Program adopted by the Ukrainian Government does not have a single mention of environmental planning and components that should be incorporated into Euro-2012 Championship preparation and conduct, - said Taras Lychuk, Co-director of the Ukrainian-American Environmental Association (UAEA).- “Greening” Euro-2012 Championship would reduce energy costs and adverse environmental impacts associated with transportation, heating and lighting of facilities, and waste disposal – before, during and after the Championship.”
“In this letter we listed a range of specific measures and recommendations which should be implemented for ‘greening’ the Euro-2012 Championship preparation and conduct,” said Irina Stavchuk, Coordinator of the Working Group of Ukrainian Environmental Organizations on Climate Change Issues. March 9, 2008 in Kyiv, Ukraine the first workshop on the establishment and goals of the Ecoclubes network was held. The meeting was
organized by Olena Tarasowa from the “Green Moment” Ecoclub of the
Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Kyiv and conducted by Kinga Maruszczak,
facilitator of the “Rawka Underground” Ecoclub from Rawa Mazowiecka as well as Agnieszka
Orzechowska and Agata Hermanowicz from the OPUS Center, an organization
