Idea of Sustainable Development Is Getting Through Schools of Rivne

On 23rd of September the training on “Sustainable Development Principles and Activities of UNDP in Terms of Their Implementation” was organised by Rivne school network for its actual and potential members in cooperation with UNDP/MSDP. The same kind of training was held in Ivano-Frankivsk on the 7th of September

 

The objective of the training was to make participants knowledgeable in sustainable development principles and policies, Local Agenda 21, major objectives and role of MSDP, MDGs, role of the school network in implementation of SD principles. The issues raised during the training also included gender equality, fighting HIV/AIDS, human rights and rights of children, and overcoming consequences of Chornobyl tragedy.

 

About 70% of the school network members consider usage of the new knowledge as supplementary materials to existing school subjects to be the best way of introducing them to the school curriculum. They suggest to further disseminate the knowledge gained through thematic talks, meetings, roundtables, open classes and lectures with teachers, parents, students, reporting on the issue during the meeting of the pedagogical council, disseminating publications, providing them to libraries, holding seminars, trainings, inviting resource persons for giving lecture, and issuing and disseminating the thematic information bulletin

 

86,7% of the participants consider cooperation with MSDP to be necessary for the schools of municipality. It is expected that the trained teachers will be able to explain and teach principles of SD and related issues to their colleagues, parents and students, and advocate these polices and practices among other target audience
