Exhibition "Lviv and Its Inhabitants"

Creative Group "Shtuka" wants to continue the tradition of 1990ies, when a lot of exhibitions of old Lviv pictures were held. We want to present you an exhibtion illustarting different epochs of life of our city and its inhabitants. This exhibition will be simultaneously held in two venues, each part having its own topic.

On September 10, 2008 in Palazzo Bandinelli (branch of Lviv Historical Museum, Rynok Square 2) and Center for Urban History of East Central Europe (Bohomoltsya str., 6) to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first picture of Lviv the photoexhibition "Lviv and Its Inhabitants" will be open.

Old photographs are the bridges connecting history and architecture. They convey the spirit of the past, demonstrate different aspects of urban life and present the image of ancient and ideal Lviv everyone tries to recapture when visiting our city.

In 1841 Winiarz and Wild bookshop on Rynok Square 2 exhibited one of the first daguerreotypes (predecessor of a photograph) showing Lviv. This very building, where first photographs of Lviv were later sold, will be the venue of the exhibition about the old and famous Lviv photo ateliers of 19th - beginning of the 20th century.

Center for Urban History of East Central Europe will offer for your view rare photographs of Lviv and its inhabitants from 1860-1990ies. The exhibition will take place in the new Center's conference-hall. The unique panoramic views of Lviv from the air balloon, airplane, hills and tall buildings will organize the exhibiton space.

Together with the exhibition round table with the participation of representatives of Lviv museums, archives and publishing houses will take place. All exhibited photographs and presentations of the round table participants will be published in the exhibition catalogue.

Film Festival KinoLev 2008

The essential aim of “KinoLev” is to demonstrate an independent, unprejudiced cinematography, to propagate, to trace, to acquaint with the things that happen today in the world of individual cinematography. Festival demonstrations take a place in the court of Bernandengarden (Museum of Ideas).

Why does it have a street format? It’s a format of Lviv. It’s like a small yard, unexpected meeting, pleasant evening conversation… Even a formal part confirms this democracy. There are no tickets, hours, action takes place continuously. Every observer is free to come in and come out. But the most important are people, those in the mass, who are able to find a pearl of spirit. This is the most important thing.

Exhibition "My Lviv" will take place from 15th till 31 of August in the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe

On May 5 the first round of the Center Art Competition “My Lviv” has taken place, choosing those works to be exhibited at the Center from 15 August 2008. In the view of the jury (faced with a hard choice between many entries of high quality and brilliant imagination), the entries selected for the exhibition and the final round of the competition especially distinguished themselves by their fresh vision of the city and their overall sense of urbanity. The Center received about fifty works of art created with various techniques (oil, graphics, photograph, etc.) and styles (from concrete to abstract and from realism to surrealism) from both well-known masters and young artists, with their works reflecting their individual view of “their” city Lviv.
