20 July, 2008 a meeting on election-related issues was held in Vienna, Austria. Yevgen Poberezhny, Committee of voters of Ukraine executive director, took part in the meeting together with domestic election observers organizations’ representatives from different countries.

The mandatory general external independent evaluation (testing) of school graduates in 11 subjects was held in Ukraine for the fist time from April 22 to June 4. More than 500 thousands of graduates took part in the EIE. Evaluation was arranged by more than 1,800 testing offices in all regions.

Voting and vote tabulation procedures were free and transparent; observers and reporters had got full access to all election procedures. CVU welcomes the great number of representatives from candidates at polling stations.

The CVU considers the Kyiv mayor and Kyiv city council election campaign to be transparent and competitive, although poorly organized and unfair to voters. Parties were not ready to form election commissions; they breached organizational deadlines and individual procedures.

From the official start of Kyiv mayor and Kyiv city council election campaign, the CVU began comprehensive monitoring of the election process. The present paper covers the course of election campaign for the period 15 April – 15 May, particularly polling stations commissions’ formation, and propaganda campaign.

CVU Executive director Yevgen Poberezhny participates in John Smith Fellowship program follow-up in Tbilisi, Georgia. Each John Smith Fellow produces an action plan at the end of the Programme outlining how lessons learned in the UK can be applied in their own countries.

Yevgen Poberezhny, Committee of voters of Ukraine Executive Director, participated in Fifth Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy “Making Democracy Work: From Principles to Performance”. The three-day assembly took place in Ukrainian House, Kyiv, Ukraine, April 6-9, 2008.

Committee of voters of Ukraine Head of the Board Igor Popov joined OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) election assessment mission to Italy. The mission for the 13-14 April parliamentary elections, led by Ambassador Audrey Glover (United Kingdom), includes 10 experts from 10 OSCE participating States.

Yevgen Poberezhny, Committee of voters of Ukraine Executive Director, takes part in the first annual International Fundraising Festival. The Festival takes place from March 26th to 28th, 2008 in Prague, Czech Republic.

16 January 2008 an international conference “European democratic achievements and Ukraine electoral legislation’ development” has started. Committee of voters of Ukraine Chairman of the Board Igor Popov participated in the conference, expressing the CVU position on Ukraine electoral legislation reform.

On 28th of December election observation mission of ENEMO (European Network of Elections Monitoring Organization) started election observation on the Extraordinary Elections of the President of Georgia, due to be held January 5, 2008. Yevgen Poberezhny, CVU Executive director, heads the Mission.

December 16, 2007 early elections to Kyrgyz republic parliament (Zhogorku Kenesh) are held. Committee of voters of Ukraine’ members take part in two international election observation missions.

The Committee of Voters of Ukraine arranged the study visits to Lviv and Donetsk oblasts for the representatives of the communities participating in the Democratising Ukraine: Strengthening the Role of the Public in Public Services Delivery Project during the period from November 20 to 01 December 2007. The participants of the study tours visited the communities that were engaged in the Democratising Ukraine: Small Project Project Scheme carried out during 2003-2007.

November 1-3 a second training for short-term observers (STOs) was held in in OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Yurij Kresak, head of Volyn' oblast branch of all-Ukrainian civic organization «The Committee of voters of Ukraine», participated in the training, together with representatives of NGOs, MFAs and CECs from different countries.
