Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, to visit Ukraine Tuesday 19 July 2005

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), will visit Kiev, Ukraine, on Tuesday 19 July, for meetings with several political leaders.

Mr Solana will meet with President Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk and the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Petro Poroshenko.

The visit will provide an opportunity to take stock - in the context of the deepening EU-Ukraine partnership - of recent developments and discuss regional issues of mutual interest, in particular mutual efforts to resolve the conflict over the status of the Moldovan region of Transnistria.

EU funded project for Small and Medium Enterprises in Agriculture to expand its activities to three regions of Ukraine

After continuous negotiations and consultations between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of the Ukraine and the Project “Improvement of Logistic Services and Marketing Channels for SMEs in Agriculture” team, an agreement was reached to adopt a regional approach of the Project implementation. This regional approach will enable the Project team to concentrate its activities on a more wide geographic scale. Thus, the following three regions have been identified for Project operations...

Erasmus Mundus: European universities to welcome 23 Ukrainian graduates and academics to study and teach in the EU in 2005-2006

The European Commission has selected 803 third-country students and 133 third-country scholars, among which are 32 of Ukrainian nationality, from all over the world to receive Erasmus Mundus scholarships for the next academic year (2005-2006). The students will study in Europe for one or two years to obtain a European masters’ degree from one of the 35 Erasmus Mundus masters courses. They will follow their courses in at least two universities in two different countries, giving them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with European lifestyles, cultures and languages. The scholars will instead spend an average of three months in Europe working for one of the Erasmus Mundus masters courses.

Motorway bridges for frogs?

Clarification

The Russian news agency ITAR TASS today circulated a story entitled: EU granted 10 million Euros to build road crossings for frogs across the international motorway in Lviv Oblast/ ÅÑ âûäåëèë 10 ìëí åâðî íà ñîçäàíèå ïåðåõîäîâ äëÿ ëÿãóøåê ÷åðåç ìåæäóíàðîäíóþ òðàññó âî Ëüâîâñêîé îáëàñòè ËÜÂÎÂ, 5 èþëÿ. / Êîðð. On July 5 there will be a press-conference held dedicated to the installation of new equipment at the Central State Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine (CSLVM) which has received international accreditation.

The Minister of Agrarian Policy Oleksandr Baranivsky, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Ukraine Ambassador Ian Boag, representatives from the European Commission, State department of veterinary medicine and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy will take part in the press-conference.
