Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), had a meeting today with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Arseniy YATSENYUK, to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine and relations with the European Union.

Much of the discussion was devoted to Ukraine's domestic developments and the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine, which are scheduled for 30 September. Mr Solana underlined the importance of a free and fair poll. The elections should lead to a stable government able to implement important political and economic reforms. As regards international and regional issues, Mr Solana and Mr Yatsenyuk exchanged views on the efforts to solve the Transnistrian conflict in Moldova, Kosovo and the current state of play concerning the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty.
