CBC - Cross-Border Co-operation Programme

Description of the Programme

The Cross-Border Co-operation Programme was launched in 1996.
It aims to strengthen management and infrastructure of eastern borders of EU candidate countries, and to achieve regional partnership between Central European accession countries and Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

The Tacis CBC programme serves to:
Assist border regions in overcoming their specific development problems;
Encourage the linking of networks on both sides of the border (e.g. border crossing facilities);
Accelerate the transformation process in the partner States through their co-operation with border regions in the EU and CEC;
Reduce trans-boundary environmental risks and pollution.

In addition, in order to maximize impact, assistance shall be limited to three areas of Cooperation. As set out in the Strategy Paper, for Tacis CBC these three areas will be:
Development of infrastructure networks;
Promotion of environmental protection and management of natural resources;
Support to the private sector and assistance for economic development.
