In 1993 the EU’s Delegation started out small with 6 people staff in a few cramped rooms in Hotel National. The pioneers of those days were up against difficulties that one can hardly imagine today. Progress in those ten years in Kyiv and Ukraine has been tremendous. The Delegation has also grown since then and today counts some 75 colleagues of 14 different nationalities. This number is very likely to increase as Ukraine and the EU step up their level of cooperation’s, producing Action Plans and Neighbourhood Programmes and increasing the financial and technical assistance to Ukraine in the context of Wider Europe.
The European Union’s Delegation to Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus celebrated its 10 years Anniversary last December with three different events: knowing the importance of Public Relations we started with a party for 30 local journalists who were invited to the private home of the Head of the Political and Press Section. The second highlight was the EU’s first ever-Gala Dinner Dance for our top political, government and business contacts in Ukraine. Last but not least, three days later the Delegation’s staff took to the same dance floor- albeit in a slightly wilder version than the Gala Dinner crowd- and celebrated having successfully implemented more than 1000 EU projects in Ukraine, worth more than 1,2 billion Euros. This record surely will not stand after the next ten years. Enjoy the pictures!
