10.03.2006 - International cooperation: the Government of Japan helps the village of Pakul
KYIV, UKRAINE – On March 7, 2006 a signing ceremony on the grant contract between the Government of Japan and the community organization “Dobrobut” of the village of Pakul (Chernihiv rayon, Chernihiv oblast) was held at the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.

09.03.2006 - 62 Danube NGOs Get $636,000 to Reduce Danube Pollution
(Vienna, Austria: March 9, 2006) A total of 62 NGOs were awarded over 636,000 USD today to reduce nutrient and toxic pollution to Danube waters. The NGO projects were launched in 11 Danube River Basin countries -- Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.

The concept of human development has been championed by UNDP for two decades. One of its basic tenets is that development requires more than economic growth alone. The fight against poverty is not a campaign of charity - it is a mission of empowerment. This is especially true as regards women, given that, of the world’s one billion poorest people, three-fifths are women and girls. Gender equality and women’s empowerment – as set out in the internationally agreed Millennium Development Goals – is, therefore, crucial to development.

06.03.2006 - UNDP/CRDP study tour in Poland on local self-governance and regional development
UKRAINE – POLAND, On February 26 – March 4, 2006 a study tour and training of the UNDP/CRDP and Ukrainian regional administration representatives on local self governance and regional development were held in Poland. The trip took place on the invitation of the Governor of the West Pomeranian Region (Poland), Prof. Sigmund Meyer and was co-organized by the UNDP Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme (CRDP).

06.03.2006 - International Conference in Slavutych “Chornobyl 20 years after: Local and regional authorities facing catastrophes”
SLAVUTYCH, UKRAINE – On March 2-3, 2006 an International Conference “Chornobyl 20 years after: Local and regional authorities facing catastrophes” took place in Slavutych. The event was organized by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in co-operation with the City of Slavutych and the Foundation for Local Self-Government of Ukraine.

On 3 March 2006 the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), organized a forum on growth, productivity and development in Ukraine and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

02.03.2006 - HUMAN RIGHTS AND HIV IN UKRAINE Roundtable on March 3rd promoted by UNDP and Human Rights Watch
A Round Table on Human Right and HIV protection will take place in Kyiv on March 3, 2006. This seminar is organized by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with Human Rights Watch, one of the most important International NGOs working in the sphere of protection of human rights.

24.02.2006 - Representatives of the Eastern and Southern municipalities learn the experience of Ivano-Frankivsk on promoting the democratic governance in participation of citizens
The representatives of 9 municipalities, primarily from East and South of Ukraine, visited Ivano-Frankivsk on the 23-24th of February to learn the experience of community participation in the process of managing local sustainable development, gained through the implementation of Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme in the municipality.

24.02.2006 - UNDP and SDC officials interact with the local partners of MGSDP in Ivano-Frankivsk
On the 21st-22nd of February 2006 Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, and Ueli Muller, Director of Swiss Agency on Development and Cooperation (SDC), visited Ivano-Frankivsk, the partner municipality of MGSDP.

23.02.2006 - Cost-Sharing Agreement for the Co-Financing of the Local Community Projects in 2006 Was Signed Between UNDP and Ivano-Frankivsk Municipality
An official meeting of the partners of UNDP/ Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme was held in the premises of the executive committee of Ivano-Frankivska City Council on the 22nd of February 2006. Zinoviy Shkutyak, City Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Ueli Muller, Director of Swiss Agency on Development and Cooperation, and other representatives of the municipal authorities and UNDP/MGSDP participated in the meeting. During the meeting the Agreement on the joint financing of the local community projects in 2006 was signed.

23.02.2006 - Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Moldova Welcome First Steps of EU Border Assistance Mission
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Borys Tarasyuk and the Foreign Minister of Moldova, Andrey Stratan both welcomed the first steps of the EU Border Assistance Mission, following the first meeting of the Mission’s Advisory today. Both Ministers praised the speed of the Mission’s deployment following the request made in June 2005 by the Presidents of Moldova and Ukraine for border assistance.

14.02.2006 - The first Advisory Board Meeting of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) to Take Place in Odesa
On 15 February 2006 the first Advisory Board meeting of the EUBAM will be organized to report the initial findings of the Mission and to initiate a dialogue on future areas of co-operation between the Mission and the border guard and customs services of Moldova and Ukraine

14.02.2006 - The Best Experience of School Self-governance Now for Ukrainian Teacher
UNDP experts from “Human security for Ukrainian Youth” project developed and published in magazine “Vidkrytyy Urok” aimed at Ukrainian teachers the materials about the best practices of school self-governance in Ukraine.

09.02.2006 - UNDP continues support to the anti-corruption and rule of law agenda of the Ukrainian government
The Democratic Governance team of the UNDP-established Blue Ribbon Advisory and Analytical Centre (BRAAC) provides support to the Ukrainian government’s rule of law, anti-corruption and administrative reform initiatives as part of Ukraine’s European integration process.
