EU funded project for Small and Medium Enterprises in Agriculture invites to an open training in post harvest handling and storage of agricultural produce

EU-funded Project “Improvement of logistic services and marketing channels for SMEs in agriculture” is pleased to announce commencement of a third phase of its open training programme. This phase starts in May with open training in post harvest handling and storage of agricultural produce. This training will be conducted by the project experts in Kharkiv (May 19), Melitopol (May 22) and Chernivtsi (May 24).

Ukrainian children's choir performs in the European Commission

A Ukrainian children's choir will perform today in the Berlaymont Building of the European Commissio in Brussels, Belgium, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and will be welcomed by European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Dr. Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

The EC's audiovisual service will provide photo coverage of the event and the photos will be available on our web site in the early afternoon. They can be found at

Commission actions since the Chernobyl Disaster

The 26th April will mark the 20th anniversary of the nuclear accident at Chernobyl. Since then, the European Commission has allocated over ˆ470 million to Chernobyl-related projects. This assistance has supported safety improvements at Chernobyl, and provided help to people whose lives are still affected by the accident. The Commission has supported projects which address the social, health and environmental consequences of the disaster. Over and above the aid provided specifically to cope with the aftermath of Chernobyl, the Commission has also made a major contribution to the improvement of nuclear safety across the countries of the former Soviet Union.

The Söderköping Process thematic workshop

The Thematic Workshop on Analyses of Migration Trends in Eastern and Central Europe of the Söderköping Process will take place in Vilnius, Lithuania on 15-16 June, 2006. The workshop will gather asylum, migration, border guard officials and representatives of non-governmental organisations from Belarus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine, as well as representatives of the European Commission (EC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Swedish Migration Board (SMB), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

New website: www.usha.org.ua - the Ukraine School Heads Association (USHA)

A brand new website has been developed for the Ukraine School Heads Association as part of the Civic Education Ukraine project, a project funded by the European Union. The website provides comprehensive information about the Association and its activities. It is one of the biggest NGOs in Ukraine (with more than 1,000 members), bringing together Directors and Deputy Directors from different schools with the aim of developing national education standards and increasing the professional skills of school management teams.

Presentation of the “Access to justice” project

On April 19, 2006 in Kozatskiy Hotel Counterpart Creative Center and Civil Society Institute will represent their partnership project “Improving access to justice for the rural population“ that is funded by the European Union.

The project is aimed at educating citizens of rural districts about management of civil and administrative conflicts in legal form and creating appropriate organizational and legal conditions to introduce the courts of justice and courts of arbitration in the selected four rural districts.

Directions, forms and methods of work» under the EU Project «Development of Integrated Social Services for Exposed Families and Children» are carried out for social workers of the family support services and early intervention services from 10th to 21st of April, 2006 in Kyiv oblast.

EU funded project for Small and Medium Enterprises in Agriculture to implement a management information system at three agricultural enterprises

EU-funded Project “Improvement of logistic services and marketing channels for SMEs in agriculture” is planning to implement a Management Information System at three pilot agricultural SMEs starting from April.

One of the Project’s components is management support which is targeted at improvement of management quality and decision making. To achieve that the Project chose to implement a Management Information System “Balanced Scorecards” which is a new approach to strategic management developed by Drs David Norton and Robert Kaplan from Harvard Business School in early 90s.

First seminar on TACIS micro-project management

On April 04-05, the EC Project “Strengthening Civil Society”2006 has organized a training on TACIS micro-project management for thirteen non-governmental organizations - winners of EC Delegation’s call for proposals “Further Strengthening of Civil Society” 2005-2006. The training took place in Kyiv in Sanatorium “Pusha Ozerna” and was conducted by Belgian trainer Mark Delmartino.

New website “Youth Chooses. Youth Acts”

A new website has been developed by the Civic Education Ukraine project, a project funded by the European Union, to collect and disseminate good practice in civic education and civic upbringing through extra-curricular activities.Secondary school pupils and their teachers can use the website to find recommendations on teaching methodology, concrete ideas on how to organize their own activities in different areas of civic upbringing or how to participate in several All-Ukrainian projects, where they can get information and exchange experiences. The target groups include teachers at secondary schools, institutions involved in extra-curricular activities, and other adults, involved in the youth upbringing, as well as pupils aged 13-17.

On 7 April 2006, the Ukrainian Euroclub Forum will take place at 11:00 at the premises of the Cinema House in Kyiv (6 Saksahanskoho Street, the Blue Hall). The Forum will be dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the first Euroclub and is organised with the support of the European Commission Delegation to Ukraine.
