18.12.2007 - Gender equality brings economic benefits to society, international experts say
Kyiv, 18 December: Urgent issues of family and gender policy in Ukraine were discussed at a meeting of Inter-Agency Council on Family, Gender Policy, Demographic Development and Countering Human Trafficking. During the meeting an international expert from a UNDP-led Equal Opportunities Programme has presented a list of recommendations on how to strengthen the mechanisms needed to ensure national gender system in Ukraine.

Kyiv, 17 December: The approbation of a training course and a lesson on tolerance for secondary schools has finished with support from UNDP.

14.12.2007 - UNDP releases a new documentary about community development in Ukraine
Kyiv, 14 December: Recognising the need to promote community-based development in Ukraine and raise public awareness about the opportunities of this approach across Ukraine, UN Development Programme has released a documentary film entitled “A Step Ahead: How Ukrainian Communities Are Helping Themselves”.

13.12.2007 - Joint efforts of neighbouring countries to reduce the flow of illicit drugs to Ukraine, experts say
Odesa, 11-12 December: The second meeting of the Working Group on the creation of a regional information system network has been held in Odesa. This time the Black Sea ports customs specialists and the experts from EU countries had a possibility to share best practices in carrying out customs controls in the specific sea ports and developing common prevention concepts and fighting illicit drug trafficking by sea.

Kyiv, 12 December: A roundtable meeting entitled “Regional Vulnerability Research and Advocacy Initiative” has been organized by United Nations Development Programme and International Institute of sociology (KIIS), to reveal the results of sociological study which was conducted during January - December 2007.

10.12.2007 - UNDP brings Ukrainian HIV experts on a study tour to Poland
Warsaw-Kyiv, 3-7 December: A Ukrainian delegation, consisting of the representatives of the Committee to Counteract HIV/AIDS and TB; Ministry for Family, Youth and Sport and UNDP CO, has paid a visit to Poland to study the Polish HIV/AIDS management experience at different levels.

03.12.2007 - European Commission, UNDP launch a new project in support of community-based local development
Kyiv, 4 December: Successful local development and a higher standard of living could really be achieved only through joint efforts implemented by different local stakeholders: the local community, local government officials, local businesses, media and NGOs. This statement has been made during an official presentation of a new project ‘Community-based Approach to Local Development’, which was presented by Mr. Ian Boag, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine and Mr. Francis M. O’Donnell, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UN Development Programme Resident Representative in Ukraine.

Rivne, 29 November: The Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, H.E. Mr. Mutsuo MABUCHI has paid a donor visit to Rivne aimed at witnessing implementation results achieved within the “Energy Efficiency in Ukraine’s Educational Sector” project funded by UNDP-Japan Partnership Fund.

27.11.2007 - Climate change threatens unprecedented human development reversals
Brasilia - Kyiv, 27 November 2007: How the world deals with climate change today will have a direct bearing on the human development prospects of a large section of humanity. Failure will consign the poorest 40 percent of the world's population - some 2.6 bn people - to a future of diminished opportunity. This finding has been released in the new UN Development Programme's Human Development Report ‘Fighting climate change: Human solidarity in a divided world' which was officially presented by Francis M. O'DONNELL, UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine and Vitaliy NAKHLUPIN, Chairman of the National Agency for Ecological Investments.

23.11.2007 - Overcoming violence is a key to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women, experts say
Kyiv, 22 November: The UNDP-led Equal Opportunities Programme became a co-organizer of press-club “No to violence in Ukrainian society” that was planned within the framework of “16 days against violence” action. Taking part in the international action week against violence, participants in a press-club meeting, organized by a UNDP-led Equal Opportunities Programme, have concluded that violence had degrading impact on Ukrainian society, possessing a serious threat to civilised and tolerant society. Moreover, as many experts say, it is a serious obstacle preventing us from ensuring equal rights and opportunities of men and women.

23.11.2007 - Ukrainian journalists learn about quality standards for leather goods
Kyiv, 23 November: Forty journalists from all over Ukraine together with the UNDP-led Consumer Society and Citizen Networks experts have learned how to choose and examine quality on leather goods during a training seminar "Leather goods: quality standards".

22.11.2007 - UNDP announces policy recommendations to strengthen economic reforms in Ukraine
Kyiv, 22 November: Blue Ribbon Analytical and Advisory Centre (BRAAC) – a UNDP-led and EU-funded project in Ukraine – has published “Policy Recommendations on Economic and Institutional Reforms” aimed at improving implementation of economic reforms in Ukraine and facilitating policy dialogue.

20.11.2007 - International donors call for wider recognition of community-based local development in Ukraine
Novohrad-Volynskiy (Zhytomyr Region), 20 November: An exposure visit was organized for international donors within the UNDP-led Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme (UNDP/MGSDP) to witness the successful implementation of local community-based development projects. Over the past 2,5 years, when the Partnership Agreement between UNDP and Novohrad-Volynskiy City Council was signed, the local communities have implemented 17 projects worth UAH 2.5 mn, generating direct benefits to more than 28,000 citizens of this North-Western municipality.

19.11.2007 - UN proclaims “decade of sustainable development” for Chornobyl
New York, 19 November: The United Nations General Assembly is today expected to adopt a resolution proclaiming the period to 2016 as a “decade of recovery and sustainable development” for territories in Belarus, the Russian Federation, and Ukraine that were affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident.

16.11.2007 - Independent public assessment improves regional gender programmes in Kherson region
Kherson, 15-16 November: The experts of UNDP-led Equal Opportunities Programme have visited Kherson region to help in promoting gender equality in the region.
