Challenger - «KYIV UMC OPEN» - the International professional tennis tournament among men will take place on September 1-9, 2001 in Kyiv at the tennis courts of Nauka playing fields (32, Vernadskogo av). This year the tournament has been officially called «KYIV UMC OPEN by INTER», owing to the Title sponsorship of the Inter TV-channel that celebrates its fifth anniversary. Starting from 1998 this tournament of the «Challenger» category has been organised on a yearly basis under the patronage of International Association of the Tennis professionals (ATP Tour). «KYIV UMC OPEN by INTER» – is the biggest «Challenger» tournament in Europe. For Ukraine it is highly prestige to be represented at the international sport arena by such class tournament. Its organising is like a visiting card of our country and Kyiv city in the world of sports. It is worth underlining that every year the tournament grows bigger and it is owing to UMC that in 1995 started to sponsor a little tournament of the «Satellite» series. The joint efforts of UMC, Tennis federation of Ukraine and Infosport corporation, and from 2000 also the Inforsport Marketing company have raised the level of the tournament till the «Challenger» series of ATP «Tour». But not only professionals will play! «KYIV UMC OPEN by INTER’2001» – is not just battles between professional tennis players. Within professional tournament a series of amateur games will take place. «EBA UMC CORPORATE by INTER» will take place on August 25-26 on the playgrounds of Physical culture department of Kyiv city administration (63, Povitroflotskiy av). Its participants are the members of European Business Association (ÅÂÀ), the top managers of the western companies that work in Ukraine and diplomatic staff. «UMC CORPORATE by INTER» will take place on September 1-2 on the playgrounds of Physical culture department of Kyiv city administration (63, Povitroflotskiy av). The amateur tournament is organised under the aegis of Tennis amateur Association. Association members and simply amateur players will take part in this tournament «UMC JUNIOR by INTER» will take place during September 5-9 on the Nauka hard play fields. 16 most perspective tennis players of Ukraine in the age 12+ will play. The final of this tournament will be on September 9 on same venue before the «KYIV UMC OPEN by INTER». The super final game of the «EBA UMC CORPORATE by INTER» and «UMC CORPORATE by INTER» winners will define the absolute champion among amateurs. The super final will take place on the central playing field of Nauka fields on September 9 before the final of the «KYIV UMC OPEN by INTER» professional tournament.
