Pastor Sunday Adelaja: Prosperity is the way to happiness
Each of us was created to be happy, joyful and prosperous…
Psalm 35:27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
The King James Bible translates “peace” as “prosperity”. If a man is looking for God’s truth and is standing firm upon it, then God finds him worthy of joy and prosperity. Everyone fulfilling the will of God and bringing His order in the earth will succeed.
The earth is the heritage of God’s children, who are called to glorify His name in all spheres of modern society. As Christians, we are concerned with spreading the Kingdom of God and making it more influential over all the earth. The state of happiness is an atmosphere of the Kingdom of God. By the hands of His sons and daughters, God wants to spread this “atmosphere” all over the earth. That is why He is interested in making His children prosperous, because prosperity is one of God’s ways to happiness. All wealth and riches belong to God.
Psalm 23:1 The earth is the LORD’S, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it...
Haggai 2:8 ’The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty.
We are heirs in Jesus Christ, and because of this we have the way to possess all gold and silver. God wants His name to be glorified by making His servants prosperous and successful. That is why anyone who cares about the affairs of the Kingdom cannot evade prosperity.
You may ask: “Why then do we see the lives of many Christians in poverty, and far from prosperity and riches?”
There is a serious reason for this.
Seeking to spread the Kingdom
God desires to prosper all of His children. He is pleased with seeing His children happy and successful, but unfortunately many of these children of God do not want to use the “gold and silver” that God has given them FOR HIS KINGDOM PURPOSES. God blesses those people who will seek first the spreading His Kingdom and take care of its interests.
Upon coming to the church many people want to solve their own problems. When God blesses them, He expects that in some time they will take care of His Kingdom, just as He does for their houses. However, only a few become true followers of Jesus Christ, wholly dedicating their lives to serve the Kingdom of God.
The point is that many people do not think about the real purpose of their salvation. They are glad to be saved and dream about their life in heaven one day. Such people are not interested in God’s business, they do nothing to spread the Kingdom of God, and they experience no change in their lives. These people are living only for themselves, and thereby close all doors of God’s further blessings in their lives and finally end up in financial crises.
God keeps His Word: Everyone who sows the principles of the Kingdom will become prosperous.
God judges our hearts and the motives of our actions.
I would like to give you an example of a couple that came to God hoping to solve financial problems caused by an unsuccessful marriage. By attending the church they heard much about running a prosperous business and about financial laws. They were so encouraged by the testimonies that they started taking an interest in the ways of financial breakthrough. They got to know about tithes and offerings, and started sowing. They sowed for a year but got nothing in return…
They asked me for help, and thanks to the Holy Spirit, I could give them an answer: When they gave their tithes and offerings, their motives were far from the Kingdom and obedience to God. They sowed because they wanted their money to return to them having multiplied.
The Word of God tells us:
Mathew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
Those people did not know the truth; they could not grasp that God was not interested in their money. He is the only One Who possesses ALL GOLD AND SILVER. He needed their hearts to be dedicated to the interests and needs of the Kingdom.
This is the key: First of all, you have to give your heart and life to God.
May your first priority be to spread the Kingdom of God and for the salvation of people.
Serve Him wholeheartedly and you will see how much He can give you, for the glory of His name!
