Letter of Pastor Sunday
Published in Impact Magazine (Issue 6)
Dear pastors and friends of Ukraine!
I would like to take this time to thank you for all your prayers and support given to the nation of Ukraine and the body of Christ, due to the political unrest here. I have personally received numbers of emails and letters of encouragement from friends and well-wishers. Thank you for your concerns!
There is no doubt that we are living in a decisive moment for our country, and we really need as much encouragement and support as possible from the international community. As the Ukrainian Church, we are standing together with the people of Ukraine for truth and righteousness, against corruption and despotism. We believe freedom, democracy and righteousness will prevail in this land!
The Opposition Candidate, Victor Yushenko, though Orthodox, is a Godly believer. He was supposed to have won the presidency during the first election, and he is the candidate our church is supporting. We believe the second election (which will be held on December 26, 2004) will be in favor of democracy and truth.
Our church has been playing an active role in the political ring:
- For the first time, we produced a presidential candidate, who is now aligned with the Opposition and working in that political block.
- Our Christian votes were given to the democratic, pro-western candidate.
- Thousands of our members are actively involved with the demonstrations against governmental corruption held on Independence Square in the center of Kyiv.
- We have erected a tent on the Northern side of Independence Square, allowing us to minister, feed and work with those demonstrating.
- Pastor Sofia was able to lead over one million people in prayer during one of the demonstrations, as well as give interviews and speeches on many of the Ukrainian national television and radio stations.
- Beginning December 6, we gathered over one thousand pastors and ministers for a 10-day prayer and fasting time.
For the first time in the history of Ukraine, we are seeing comprehensive unity of all the Christian denominations, including Orthodox, Main-line Baptist, Charismatic, etc.
We are certain all that is happening now is a result of our prayers for reformation and we are glad our church is at the very edge of this new movement. We covet your continuous prayers, both for our country as well as for our church!
I would also like to invite you to our church’s 11th Anniversary (held from March 31-April 3, 2005). People will be joining us from all over the world and God is preparing great things for his people! We desire for you to be a part of it! For more information, please contact our Guest Department at guest@godembassy.org.
May the Lord bless you and lift you up upon His eagle’s wings!
Yours in Him, Pastor Sunday Adelaja Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations Kyiv , Ukraine
