19.04.2005 - Swiss ambassador visits Zamglai communities, officially opens youth and health centres
On 18 April 2005, Ambassador of Switzerland to Ukraine Christian Faessler officially opened a health post and youth centre in the village of Zamglai village Ripkynskiy Raiyon, Chernihiv Oblast. The opening was a part of the ambassador’s visit to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme (CRDP) project site. Vladyslav Atroshenko, Governor of Chernihiv oblast, and Deputy Director of Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency Urs Kluser and UNDP-CRDP staff accompanied the ambassador.

15.04.2005 - Bezsmertnyy, Klutchkovsky talk constitutional, self-governance reform on a UNDP-sponsored conference
All-Ukrainian conference on Local Government in the context of Constitutional and Democratic Reforms in Ukraine was held on the 14th of April 2005 in Kyiv. The goal of the conference was to prepare practical recommendations for the Ukrainian government concerning formation of new democratic philosophy in Ukraine, strategy of sustainable municipal development in Ukraine as well as legislative support of structural reforms of local Ukrainian government.

14.04.2005 - ILO, State Statistics Committee publish results of Economic Security Survey
According to the survey Ukraine ranks 35th out of 90 countries in the world in the Economic Security Index. The survey covered 2,082 enterprises with a total of 868,000 employees. Guy Standing, Programme Director, said that the results of the survey are very important, as they reveal the extent of economic insecurity, lack of social protection, scale of public health problems, and the difficulties of surviving in Ukraine in general. ‘We hope very much that the data and analyses being generated by the surveys will help a new generation of policy makers, the donor community, and the statisticians have a better sense of what is achievable in the years ahead’, Standing stated.

12.04.2005 - Youth Entrepreneurship: Focus on Trainers
Sixteen future trainers visited Ivano-Frankivsk for 8 days course offered in conducting training within the program “Economical security for Ukrainian youth” initiated by UNDP Project “Human Security for Ukrainian Youth” together with NGO “Skif” and Youth administration of Ivano-Frankivsk region.

31.03.2005 - Youth self-governance in Ukraine today: from Kiev to regions
Student self-governance is the measure of how deeply students participate in public life. The round table “Youth Self-Governance Policy Dialogue” was aimed at hosting debates around issues of student self-governance and its best practices around the world. Representatives of regional student self-governing bodies, International “Renaissance” Fund, “International education” Informational Center, the Ministry of science and education of Ukraine, the Ministry on youth and sport of Ukraine together with the experts of UNDP Project “Human security for Ukrainian Youth” came together to exchange views on the implementation of the provisions of the “On the state higher education establishment” normative document of September 5, 1996 and the law “On higher education” of February 17, 2002, which determine the activities of student self-governing bodies within the higher educational establishments.

22.03.2005 - 2005 Phillip Jessup Law Moot Court Competition
In co-operation with UNDP Project “Human Security for Ukrainian Youth”, “Magister & Partners” attorneys-at-law administered the National Championship of the 2005 Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Ukraine.

11.03.2005 - Oleh Rybachuk Introduces Measures for EU Integration Implementation to Donor Community
Kyiv, 11 March 2005. A meeting of the donor community with Oleg Rybachuk, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration and UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Francis M. O'Donnell, was held as a follow-up to the Blue Ribbon Commission report ‘Proposals to the President – A New Wave of Reforms’.

01.03.2005 - The UNDP Resident Representative and UN System Resident Coordinator Francis M. O’Donnell visited Crimea to meet key partners
The UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine Francis M.O’Donnell visited the Autonomous Republic of Crimea during 1-2 March 2005. During his visit to Crimea, Mr. O'Donnell met Vice Prime Minister of Crimea Vitalina Dzoz and discussed further cooperation between the United Nations Development Programme and the Government of Crimea in the framework of The United Nations Crimea Integration and Development Programme(CIDP). The UN in Ukraine Resident Representative introduced the Blue Ribbon Commission Report, Proposals to the President – A New Wave of Reform to representatives of the Government of Crimea and also discussed with them four priority directions for the UN System’s work in Ukraine.

01.03.2005 - UN team see development in action in the Chornobyl region
To assess progress and development in the region of Ukraine affected by the 1986 Chornobyl disaster, the UN Resident Coordinators and UNDP Resident Representatives in Ukraine and Belarus, Mr. Francis M. O'Donnell and Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu, along with Ms. Iryna Abalkina, UNDP programme managers from Russia visited sites in Chernihiv oblast February 25, 2005, accompanied by a UNDP team.

It was at the Nairobi headquarters of UNEP where the clock began ticking for the entry into force of the world's first climate change treaty. Nearly 90 days ago we stood by and applauded Ambassador Andrey Denisov of Russia as he handed to Secretary-General Kofi Annan his country's accession papers to the Kyoto Protocol.

11.02.2005 - UNDP is inviting partners from the Government and civil society to contribute to its future plans and priorities
Together with the Department for Coordination of Technical Assistance of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, UNDP Ukraine conducted a consultation meeting on the Assessment of Development Results Report as well as on the Country Programme Document for UNDP’s technical assistance for the period of 2006 – 2010. UNDP partners from the government, parliament, civil society and international organizations took part in the meeting at UN House on 8 February 2005.

03.02.2005 - Blue Ribbon Commission Proposes “New Wave” of Reform for Ukraine; UN-Sponsored Report Provides New President with Policy Blueprint
The official launch of the Blue Ribbon Commission report “Proposals to the New President - A New wave of Reform” took place from 11 till 17 January 2005 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The launch included high profile events such as a national conference organized jointly by the National Bank of Ukraine and UNDP Ukraine, a press club session, a lecture to academic leaders and students at the Institute of International Relations, as well as meetings with key figures in the incoming administration, such as President-elect Viktor Yushchenko, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, and Yulia Tymoshenko. www.un.kiev.ua/brc

31.01.2005 - Danilo Turk, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs visited Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone and the United Nations Development Programme – Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme project site
Mr. Danilo Turk, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs accompanied by Mr. Volodymyr Holosha, Head of the State Department for Administration of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone visited Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant exclusion zone and the United Nations Development Programme – Chornobyl Recovery
