REGNUM, 28 August 2006

On August 28, Lithuania has started issuing biometrical passports, a REGNUM correspondent is told at Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry. From now on, Lithuanian citizens can obtain a passport, which apart from the photo has biometrical parameters of its owner. Not only Lithuania started issuing such IDs. Under an EU resolution, such documents were to be started being issued by all the countries in the European Union by August 28.

It is worth mentioning, extra security protection in passports is one of pre-conditions for Lithuania to enter the Schengen zone and lifting visa regime with the USA.
