Rada ratified Ukraine-Turkey readmission agreement

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has ratified the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Turkey on readmission of persons.

Making a report on this matter, Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs Mykhaylo Verbensky emphasized that implementation of the agreement would promote the creation of legal conditions for efficient cooperation between the contracting parties as well as would allow reducing the number of illegal migrants in the country and simplifying the procedure for identity verification and deportation of illegal migrants – both Turkish nationals and those who arrived in Ukraine illegally from that country.

According to the MIA deputy chief, ratification of the agreement will also enable saving the budget funds allocated for the measures concerning compulsory exclusion of aliens from the country. As Verbensky emphasized, implementation of the agreement will not require any extra expenses from the state budget.

Vitaliy Shybko, chairman of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, stressed in turn that Ukraine had already signed such agreements, particularly with Georgia, Switzerland, Uzbekistan, and Moldova. According to him, such agreements with Russia and a number of other countries, including the CIS states, are being prepared for signing, and the agreement with Belarus is already in the final stage of readiness.
