About UCAN

Ukraine Citizen Action Network (UCAN) was an initial five-year project supporting Ukraine's growing civil society that started in July 2002. UCAN is in its first project extension year implementing a Leader CSO Capacity Building Program until the end of September 2008. UCAN is funded by the United States Agency for International Development and implemented by the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC). UCAN helps Ukrainian citizens take responsibility for determining the kind of society they live in by increasing citizen participation in all aspects of public life. Through grants, training, and networking opportunities, UCAN helps citizen initiatives and civil society organizations more effectively communicate their priorities and coordinate with government and the private sector to tangibly improve people's lives.

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is an independent, nonprofit organization that helps communities in existing and emerging democracies solve problems while building a better future for themselves and the world. ISC gives communities and the organizations that support them the training, advice, and grants they need to solve their own problems and shape their own destiny long after ISC's work with them is ended. ISC focuses on environmental, economic, and social concerns, and the need to address all three to succeed.
