Fellowships
in Austria
FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 2001/2002 (submission deadline 15th of April 2001)
of the Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology and Society in
Graz. We offer six grants for fellowships starting October 1st 2001 for
investigating issues of:
SOCIALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND TECHNOLOGY DESIGN
Topic 1:
Technology Studies and Sustainability
Grants will be awarded for research projects contributing to the
issue of sustainable development from the perspective of social studies of
science and technology. Projects should aim at improving our understanding of
environmental innovations and at highlighting different strategies of
environmental technology policy, e.g. user involvement or strategic niche
management.
Topic 2:
Ecological Product Policy
Promoting environmentally friendly design, manufacturing and use of
products represents a second focus of the grant programme. Research projects
that contribute to a better understanding of the social and cultural context of
products as well as strategies of a ecological product policy are of particular
interest.
Topic 3:
Technology and the Public
A further emphasis of the grant scheme comprises issues of
acceptance, democratisation and public understanding of technology. Researchers
dealing with topics such as risk communication or controversial technologies e.g.
modern biotechnology are especially encouraged to apply for these grants.
We encourage both theoretical analysis and practically oriented case
studies. The grant application must be submitted together with an application
for a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology
and Society. Prof. Arno BammИ decides on the awarding of fellowships and grants
after consulting the Scientific Advisory Board.
