The European Union invites Ukraine to celebrate Europe Day

The European Union's Delegation to Ukraine would like to invite the Ukrainian public to a celebration of the European Union’s anniversary - Europe Day.

The birthday party will take place on May 17, 2003 on Europe Square in the centre of Kyiv. The event is free of charge and is centred around two main events: an open-air popular music concert featuring top bands from the Ukraine and the EU - including the new member states - playing music ranging from traditional Dixie-land jazz to hip-hop; and a European village situated on the corner of Khreschatyk and Europe Square.

The stands and tents of the European village will offer not only information about the EU, its member states and Ukraine but also sell food and beverages to those hungry for more than knowledge. At the concert, which will last from mid-afternoon till 11 p.m., four well-known bands from Ukraine and ten bands from different EU-countries will take turns performing to give an impression of the musical diversity of Europe.

The EU bands are from Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, Lithuania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark and France. Two national TV stations will cover the concert.

In the European village, which will be open from noon until 7 p.m. a you will have the occasion to meet a wide range of European and Ukrainian participants: EU member states and candidate countries, Kyiv restaurants offering national cuisine, Euroclubs, European Documentation Centres and many more.

You will have an opportunity to chat with European Ambassadors, taste handmade Italian pizza, test your knowledge of the EU in quizzes and win prizes.

The Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine would like to express its appreciation to the EU Member States and Candidate Countries, the Kyiv City Administration, the European Business Association and its Ukrainian and European partners and sponsors for their support in making Europe Day possible.
