Job Description
This is a leading consultancy role, dealing with
constantly developing, leading edge technology within a high
profile, business-critical customer environment. The role spans
pre-sales, consultancy and project activities. Our consultants are
the key to successful implementations and to be effective in this
role our consultants need to be true experts in their
field.
The HP delivery strategy for IT Governance systems is to
provide a high degree of out-of-the-box functionality, complemented
by powerful customisation capability. This is backed by a strong
project methodology developed specifically to take advantage of
these aspects of the products. Customers implementing ITG require
advice on how to model their business and processes within these
applications and to understand customisation is required to provide
an exact match to their needs. This requires an ability to
understand customer requirements quickly and to be able to
translate them into system usage, as well as the ability to
understand how the customisation capabilities can be used to fill
any gaps. Another component of the consultancy role is to advise
and assist with systems integration with other products from the HP
BTO solution set, and external applications such as Remedy, SAP,
Oracle Applications and in-house developed
applications.
HP’s ITG product set is built on an Oracle data base and
can be implemented on a variety of technical environments including
Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris, HP, IBM AIX and Red Hat Linux.
Solution Architects must be comfortable working in any of these
environments. The product customisation functionality is
implemented through a custom user interface, which provides
additional customisation options through the use of SQL and PL/SQL.
The ability to work with these languages is essential.
The key goal of a solution architect is to successfully
scope and lead the delivery of client proof of concepts, proof of
values and implementations in a way that delivers value to the
client’s business and enables ongoing sales of licenses and
services.
Working predominately on customer site, European travel
is a requirement of this role and consultants must be willing to
travel to customer sites located throughout Europe. While many
projects are UK based, or require shorter duration travel,
applications should be prepared to travel away from home for
periods of up to 5 months coming back only at
weekends.
As well as being a partly billable role, the Solutions
Architect works closely with R&D to provide feedback on product
direction, and is a significant contributor to best practice and
internal and partner enablement.
