Sports > Open-Sharapova continues march through U.S. Open draw Top seed Maria Sharapova reached the
U.S. Open fourth round for the first time on Friday with a 6-2
6-4 win over Germany's Julia Schruff. The Russian, who dropped just three games in her opening
two matches, lost only one point in the first three games.
She romped through the first set and led 4-2 in the second.
Schruff, the world number 87, broke back and leveled at 4-4
but Sharapova broke again to clinch victory in just over an
hour.
Sharapova will now play Sania Mirza, who became the first
Indian woman to reach the last 16 of a grand slam event when
she beat Marion Bartoli of France.
