The European Village

Country tents

26 EU countries will be represented in the European Village in Kiev this year: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Ukraine. Each embassy will invite visitors to learn more about their country’s geography, culture, history, people and cities, and to take part in games and quizzes.

Public Discussion Forum

Last year, visitors very much appreciated the opportunity to enter into intensive and serious debate in the Public Discussion Tent. So this year we intend to expand on our experience and invite many more Ukrainian and foreign experts from business, politics, culture, academia and other fields to reply to your questions and comments. Topical issues will include the ongoing debate about EU enlargement, the EU’s relations with Ukraine, education opportunities for Ukrainian students in the EU, the extremely concerning issue of climate change, and many more.

European Language School

This is always a great success. Learn basic phrases and words, both useful and silly, in many European languages. Come and celebrate the linguistic diversity of our little continent. In addition to German, French and Polish, you’ll have a chance to explore more unusual languages such as Finish, Greek, Swedish and Portuguese… Who knows: your newfound knowledge might come in handy when meeting other Europeans on Europe Day!

European Food Corner

Whether Italian antipasti, Dutch herring, Polish sausage, Turkish baklava—whatever takes your fancy, come and indulge at the European Food Corner. Needless to say, the same goes for the Austrian coffee, Irish beer and Portuguese wine… Take a break, have a drink and a snack with friends and fellow Europeans. After all, no celebration of Europe could ignore the supreme culinary delights our cultures offer.

Arts & Music Corner

European identity has indeed been forged to a great extent by our extremely diverse culinary traditions. But what would European culture be without…culture? As with food, it is the very diversity that unifies: from ancient folk dancing to a vibrant modern music scene. Every year, millions of tourists flock to our countries to witness the extraordinary wealth and breadth of our continent’s culture. So come and experience live music, theatre, dance and much more from all over Europe, including Austria, France, Romania, and Turkey at the Arts & Music Corner.

Rock Concert

In the evening, Maidan Nezalezhnosti will be electrified by the unique performance of The Cardigans (Sweden) and Brainstorm (Latvia) in conjunction with the well-known Ukrainian groups Vopli Vidopliasova and TNMK.
