The Ukrainian Trade Unions are Disappointed with a Social Part of the Draft Budget for the Next Year

   The Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine (FPU) is worried because of reduction of growth rates of average wages and understating of a level of a living wage, fixed in the draft Law on state budget for 2007.

GOVERNMENT INVITES UNIONS TO THE COURT

   The Cabinet of Ministers is going to seek for consent of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine (FPU) to conclude a General agreement at court. This statement was released by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy on Friday. “Trade unions flatly refuse to come to an agreement with the government and use the situation round budget to exercise political pressure”, claims the Ministry’s statement.

ADDRESS of the Presidium of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine to the heads of regional, municipal and district state administrations to guarantee a human right to decent living standards in the conditions of price increase

   Honourable heads of regional, municipal and district state administrations!
   A series of increases in electricity and gas prices and tariffs starting from May 2006 and further a 2-3-fold price rise for housing and communal services and bread, including increase of public transport fares, lead to a drastic drop in living standard of workers, their families and pensioners.

The Parliament of Ukraine passed the Economic and Social Development State Program-2007

   The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed the draft bill on the Ukraine's Economic and Social Development State Program-2007 in the first reading. 242 MPs out of 437 registered ones voted for the draft.

Court Obliges MP Volynets To Refute Accusations Against MP Stoian Of Stealing Trade Unions Federation Property

   The Kyiv Pecherskyi district court has obliged Verkhovna Rada deputy Mykhailo Volynets (Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc faction) to refute his accusations against Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Stoian (the Party of Regions faction) of participation in stealing of property of the Trade Unions Federation. Stoian has disclosed this to the press at a press conference.

World Bank Lowers Its 2007 GDP Growth Forecast For Ukraine From 6-7% To 4.5%

    The World Bank has lowered its GDP growth forecast for Ukraine from 6-7% to 4.5% in 2007. The World Bank has lowered its GDP growth forecast for Ukraine from 6-7% to 4.5% in 2007. The World Bank announced this in a statement. According to the statement, this so-called "restrained" forecast is due to the expected increase in energy prices in the future. Moreover, the bank says that the monetary and fiscal conditions in the country do not allow creation of reserves for absorbing the shock of energy price increases without the risk of further inflation.

World Bank Recommends Ukraine To Liquidate Ineffective Subsidies The World Bank suggests the Ukrainian government to gradually liquidate ineffective subsidies.

   This follows from a World Bank statement.
   According to the report, liquidation of subsidies in the coal industry would save up to 0.6% of GDP, elimination of subventions to state-owned enterprises and financial establishments – up to 0.6% of GDP. Ineffective subsidies on material and technical resources and production in agriculture also take away round 0.4% of GDP.
