Modern E-marketplace for oil products launched in Russia

EPAM Systems announces the launch of TNK's e-marketplace for wholesale oil products. One of the ten largest vertically integrated oil and gas companies in the world, TNK today went online with the marketplace which offers total support for the oil buying and selling process.

Princeton, NJ, June 25, 2003 - EPAM Systems announces the launch of a modern e-marketplace for wholesale oil products of TNK (Tyumen Oil Company).

The TNK e-marketplace drastically accelerates the ordering process, prevents mistakes and allows for tracking the delivery status of all transactions. In addition, the e-marketplace puts into practice the advanced business planning practices and processes of coordinating and performing trade operations in the oil products wholesale market. The feature highlights include support for both traditional negotiated transactions as well as auction bids. In addition to providing an analysis and tracking tool for TNK staff, the application allows customers to track their orders and balances online.

"The application of the e-marketplace will allow our company to reduce the need for "hands-on" management of various business processes and will simplify the interaction between TNK customers and traders. The automation of routine operations will keep down the probability of errors and will enable our employees to work with a larger number of clients," said Alexander Kaplan, TNK SVP of Marketing, Sales and Refining.

The e-marketplace differs from the majority of similar e-marketplaces both in Russia and abroad, by supporting the end-to-end sales business process from inception to post-transaction analysis and reporting, while still ensuring tight enterprise application integration and high levels of security.

"TNK believes that to achieve its mission it must be an open and transparent organization. The e-marketplace is an important constituent among the measures aimed at pursuing this policy. The e-marketplace was designed as a flexible tool which follows and complies with the continually evolving business processes that support sales. The e-marketplace will help us to create a new distribution channel for our products, increase customer loyalty and TNK personnel efficiency," remarked Alexander Bloch, Head of TNK IT and Communications Department.

The e-marketplace was developed by Princeton, NJ - based, EPAM Systems, which operates technology development centers in Moscow, Russia and Minsk, Belarus. EPAM was selected for this project by TNK in an open tender from more than 50 leading Russian and international companies based on its 10-year global development history of e-marketplaces and CRM applications.

"The development of this e-marketplace is important to EPAM for several reasons. It is an effective business instrument for a modern company. It is a solution which employs advanced technologies, and it confirms that the Russian business climate has evolved to near international levels," said Arkadiy Dobkin, CEO and President of EPAM Systems.

The TNK e-marketplace is based on the Novell exteNd integrated enterprise application platform, which includes a portal, an application server, an integration server and development tools. Novell exteNd entered the set of Novell solutions recently and has gained well-deserved popularity as one of the most promising solutions offered by the company. The application of Novell exteNd in this particular project has contributed to faster development of a flexible, dependable and scalable solution.

"We would like to commend the highest level of professionalism displayed by our partners in such a significant project, - said Konstantin Chikin, Director of the Moscow office of Novell, - the significance of this launch for Novell is underscored by the fact that it is the first solution of its kind based on Novell exteNd in Russia and the CIS. TNK's decision to implement this solution over some more established products, gives us confidence that our products meet the strictest requirements of major industry players."
